If the dog is overweight,is 80 lbs the weight you want it to stay?
Do some research to find what your breed dog should weigh, feed a quality food using the manufacturers guidelines, limit extra treats and make sure your dog gets adequate exercise EVERY day. If the adjustments have no positive effects, have the vet draw blood and see if it has an under active thyroid which can be treated with daily meds. Good luck

It really depends on the type of dog, but if they are not supposed to be 80lbs then, you should walk her(I don't know if she is a boy or a girl) regularly, make her run once a week, and to gradually feed the dog less and less every day, until you are only giving her about half of what she gets now. Give her treats when she is good, and don't feed her scraps very often. Give her food two times a day, by filling up her dish 1/2 way up both times. She should get smaller soon. If she doesn't lose some weight in a month of that, then contact your local vet. once she gets back to a respectable size then, increase her food a little bit.

Sincerely,

I would check with the vet to make sure she doesn't have diabetes or some disorder. I would ask the vet what is the amont that you should give this dog under the circumstances. I would take the dog for a brisk walk each day and do things that encourages get up and go exercising. I don't like to feed a dog only once a day. I would rather take the time to feed small amounts several times a day of a good product. If you feed small and often then the system don't say store fat and the digestion continues throughout the day.

Pretty much the same way as us human's need to get fit. There is a special dog food for over weight dogs ,you need to watch how much she eats and excerise.I tried with my old old dog but she was not happy at all,she made us feel like she was dying without a full bowl a food daily and she finally out smarted us by getting up in the middle of the night and eating all the cat food.So needless to say with still have a very fat and happy but unhealthy dog.Good luck.

excersise would be best. there is also a food that my dog is on, she was 75lbs and now is 60 at her ideal weight, shes a boxer. I took her to the vet and she had a thiroid problem, check that out too. There is a food called R/D Science Diet you can get at your vet. It makes the dogs loose weight easily and they have it in dry and wet. My dog is picky but she loves the wet food.

First of all, she should be seen by the vet, to determine if it may be a glandular problem. Reduction in food ration is not usually recommended, (unless you are feeding table scraps) but your vet may advise you to switch to a weight control formula.
Feeding a premium kibble, with no fillers (corn) and junk food may help a lot..She should always have what she can eat in 5 minutes twice per day, and then put the bowl away..(dry food)
then encourage exercise, such as fetching or walking more.

Start by limiting it's food intake, we have a Rottie and she only eats once a day, she is perfectly fit, take it down to the park and play with it, or at least take it on a daily walk

read the back of the bag of dog food you give you dog. they give you an idea of what he will need to eat a day for his size.
then get the diet dog food and he will lose slowly
