Above my cats tail is very sensitive, when I pet her she gets angry and tries to bite. She's 11 and she's always had some sensitivity there, but now it seems as though she dislikes it more then she used to. Is it because she's just crankier in her old age or is there another reason?

My cat is young and he does the same thing. I don't think it is sensitive, it is just a spot he doesn't like being touched in. Same thing with the backs of his hind legs, he always tries to bite me when I touch him or grab him there when playing around.

Cats usually don't like things messing with their tails and that is where the tail attaches to their spine, so it may just be a self protection type thing too.

She may have a back problem that has gotten worse with age because of arthritis or some other reason. Take her to the vet and get an x-ray. Maybe she is in a lot of pain and could use some medication : )

Older cats can get a little cranky - just like people I suppose.
I don't think most cats like to be touched there.

Think its one of those instincts - too near their bits and bobs.

Mine won't tolerate it.

Cats can be sensitive too. Maybe ask a vet to check her out to be sure she is o.k.

It may be because of an ache, and if she's declawed, then aches near or on the back are at higher risk.

Watch her, does she rub up under furniture alot? She may have a skin irritation and she could have rubbed her self raw or bruised.
