I was watching the Colbert report and Bill O Reilly talked about the culture war between secular progressives(left) and traditionalists(right).

I guess I'm pretty far left religion wise, but as for political beliefs... I've always voted for the candidate and not the party. Traditionalists want to think of themsleves as right at the expense of everyone else. I believe there is a need for military, fair taxes( that don't include huge shelters for the rich). The poor in this country are too poor to afford the things that even the middle class deduct on taxes. More money means more opportunity for tax deductions. I am a independent thinker and will not be put into a secular mold. Compare your local homeless shelter and your local church, where does your contribution dollar go further?

what is secular progressives?

secular refers to "not of religious belief." do you mean that if someone is not christian, and not of another religion either, that he is progressive? i do not think they necessarily go hand in hand.

there are plenty of people on earth that believe in g-d in one way or another--it's just too bad that they don't pay attention to what righteous living is all about. rather, they make war. isn't that dumb? it is destruction of life. that goes against the grain of standard religious belief. life is supposed to be sacred.

i personally do not care if you or another believes in the power that i see as life and its beauty, its goodness in its wonder, and i will not step on your right to be an atheist, a secular person, or a muslim, jew, christian, pagan, mormon, hindu, or whatever.

do i agree that all the people that choose not to be of any given religious faith are good or bad? that i should like them or not like them simply because you deem them as progressive? no, i meet a lot of different people. they are mostly decent human beings. some, whether following one religion or no religion, express human kindness to all, which is progressive in living as a human being.

so it doesn't matter if a person is of a faith or not in order to perform forward progression.

i want to say that this is the most argumentative forum on the entire yahoo answers site, and i do not think it is going to anyone any good to try to sway another away from the way they believe (or do not). i do hope that they eliminate hate from themselves.

Dont dog the Christian, the western culture as we know it owes the Christians there freedom, it was the Christians who paved the way, it was CHRISTIANS who made us free! It was Christian belief that all men were created equal under God that we broke free and became our own country, it was CHRISTIAN beliefs that triggerd the end of slavery. It is the very Christians heart and prayers that we are the only super power in the world today. The more and more americans turn there back on God and trample the Christians The weaker this country gets, look around you, America is losing its grip.

Granted, all too many call themselves Christian but are far from it, bearing a name is not living the name.

Added note, Catholics are not Christians, there isnt a form of Christian, either you are or you are NOT. Catholosism broke away from the Christian church after it was formed and changed documents to fit there own selfish desires.

What I dislike is someone as ridiculous as OReilly is taken more seriously than Colbert. He was on Hard Copy before Fox News. Seriously, come on. How much simpler can you make the world than spliting them into two categories.

If your talking ACLU and PETA , then I'd have to say they're whacked out crack heads and waste their time with nonsense and ignore real issues that might actually have some meaning. They take things to the extreme, making everything they do look suspect.

They seem to think we're pushing the Christian agenda on them while they propose gay marraige, illegalization of school prayer, and legal abortion laws.

1963- School prayer illegalized
-Violent crime since up 554%
-STD rate of increase up 226%
-Divorces increased 300% each year for the next 15 years
-Fornication up 353%
-Teen pregnancies between ages 10-14 up 553%

1976- Abortion legalized. 46,000,000 abortions since. 1% are rape victims.

Present- Gay marraige laws being passed (Canada has officially legalized it)

'Christian' laws passed since 1900: Little to none.

Give me a break.

I don't know. Here's one aspect I don't like. One of my friends in confirmation goes to a public school and wanted one of her teachers to be a sponsor, she had to set up an appointment outside of school just to ask her if she was Catholic. Personally that just doesn't seem right to me.

God refuses to get involved with any aspect of religion. He has never shown up at any house of worship, even though the financial support and worship continues.

They want to change the laws to make any opinion but their own illegal.

They want to disban our military.
They want to control our schools.
They want socialized healthcare for everyone.
They want higher taxes on the top 2% who keep our economy going.
etc.etc.etc.etc.

For those who claim they love intelligent discourse read the book "Culture Warrior".
