she survived. When she came home from the vet she wasnt in good shape. swollen face from a broken nose & lacerations to her hind leg & her neck. they could not suture up her wounds because there was still dirt & said to just let the wounds drain out & heal on their own time. $700 later & a week she now has a huge gaping hole in her throat and you can her breathe! the Vet informs me that there was bruised tissue on the cartilage rings around her trachea & now there is a perforation. If i don't get her seen by a specialist ( up $265 just for a consult) & schedule her for surgery something could infect the perforation & she could get pneumonia or just drop dead. I can not afford to pay for a surgery. & I refuse to put her to sleep! I need help! Advice, anything! Could her trachea heal on its own without surgery? is there anything i could do that won't cost thousands of $? Does anyone know of an organization that can help me or even help her? PLEASE!

Absolutely not. She needs surgery immediately. Take her to a vet now if you want her to live.
If you don't have money, speak with a local animal shelter about organizations that can help you. You may be able to work out a deal with the hospital that treats her. Most vets don't want to put down an animal that they can help save. But you must take her to a vet immediately. Do not wait, you will only increase her suffering.

Did you see the neighbor's dog do this? You really should talk to them about all of your bills due to this attack. Any decent neighbor would offer to pay for at least part of it. You should also contact your local SPCA to investigate the attack. Obviously the dog was not confined and is a danger. Now I love pits, but this dog is clearly a possible danger to the public. You should ask your vet about a payment program, most will offer some sort of plan. You can also talk to local shelters and SPCAs. A lot of them have emergency fund type programs or programs for low income families that could help you.

Another idea is to go onto cafepress.com. You can create a free store to sell items with a design of your creation. I've seen other people do this to raise money for their pets surgery.

You could also just ask friends and family for the money. If everyone you knew could donate 10 or 20 dollars you'd be sure to have the money in no time. You could offer to babysit or petsit, etc in return in the future.

In the future, there are companies that offer pet insurance that would cover this type of accident. The ASPCA is one.

Hope everything turns out ok.

Have you contacted your neighbor about paying for the vet bills? Did you file a police report? Was your dog on a leash or in it's own yard? You should not be responsible for the entire bill in the first place. Your dog was attacked!
Many vets will take payment plans for a large bill like this. Talk to the vet you need to go see and see if they could work something out with you. Maybe you should consider pet insurance in the future. Best of luck.

Yes you are. A dog owner has to be a responsible dog owner. Even if it was an accident and they do happen you must be in control of your own dog at all times. You may want to work with you spaniel so this won't happen again. Get some training and make her more doggie friendly. This is going to cost you some $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Good Luck

I watch alot of court shows. First where did the attack happen, were the neighbors dogs on your property or on a leash? If they are at fault you can go after them to pay the vet bills at least half. Someone is always at fault. You need to figure out who and go from there. If you have ever watched a court show, they do not look kindly on pitbulls, especially if you have owners that do not know how to properly take care of and train the breed. You might want to inform authorities about it, it's not the breed that makes them dangerous it is the people that own them. Alot of times with pitbulls they won't attack another dog unless they were bred for that, or trained for that. I know people with pitbulls and they are as nice as can be.

okay where is the pitbull owner you need to be knockin on their door their dog did this damage and they need to be paying to have your dog fixed (surgery) . This is what I am talking about that why we need a ban on these dogs . I would be so irate if I were you I would most definately be talking lawsuit to the pit's owners if they did not come across the board and pay for your dog's surgery . And some people say we should not ban pits yeah right tell that to this person whose dog is now injured because of some one's baby getting loose. I'm sorry dear I hope that you do get help for her try the spca and see if they can help you . I do so hope that we are like the uk and get a ban on these vicious dogs soon . good luck to you dear.

you need to clarify HOW the attack happened. Again, if the pitbull was off his/her leash, then the owner is responsible. End of story. So if you don't want to put your dog down, you need to go over to your neighbours house immediatly and tell them what happened, and show them the vet bill. If they refuse to pay it, threaten legal action. That is what i would do if i was in your position and someone's dog viciously attacked mine. So if that dog was either off the leash, or in a back yard that wasn't properly secured and they broke through, I would go to small claims court!

Pay for the procedures and KEEP RECIPTS AND RECORDS!! later as everyone has said-take your neighbors to court if they do not agree on an out of court settlement. Also take pictures of you dog to futher prove your case. Good Luck

You can sue your neighbors. The pit bull is their responsibility and therefore their responsibility to pay for the damage it did. This is really sad. Pit bulls have such a bad rap and its because they have bad owners.

Call the police, file a report, and sue for damages.
