That depends on the maturity level of both parties. Once you are a bit "older", the age difference isn't as big of a deal as it is at your age.
At 17 you simply don't have much "life experience" yet. I can certainly see you dating someone in their early 20's but not much older than that. Most guys that are 25 and older are looking for someone they have something in common with.
I don't think anyone can give you a "cut off" age, there are too many things to consider. I met my husband when I was 24, he was 36. We dated for almost five years and have been happily married now for 33 years. The age difference never mattered to us. If I had met him when I was 17 however, it would have never worked!
Good luck to you.

thats a good question. usually i say when you're under eighteen then two years your senior is old enough. thats how it was for me. but i also think since you're seventeen and probably a senior in high school (or out of high school,i graduated at 17 so i dated guys 5 to seven years older than me, but thats not for everybody), you might be able to hadle a relationship with an older guy. but that depends on your maturity level. and a lot of older guys date a young girl because they are seen as naive and easily manipulated. so you have to steer clear and make sure your mind is ready for that. but if i could go back, at 17...i would have dated nobody older than 21...especially if your 18th birthday is coming up. when you turn 18 though, i feel that you're free to date whoever.

As a 17 year old girl, legally, you should not be dating anyone older than yourself... because any older man would be at risk for statutory rape/molestation for doing anything with you.
But reasonably, you should probably keep within three or four years of your own age. You are far more likely to have interests and values in common with guys your own age.
Guys in their 20s and 30s may seem impressive to you now, but people's lives change so quickly in their teen and college years.

It depends how mature you are...and how immature the guy is he he:) Some girls/women go out with guys 20 years older. You might be happy with someone much older but it's not always accepted by society/friends/family... At the end of the day, age is only a number and it's the person that counts. Personally i wouldn't go for someone over 10 years my age. So in your case i'd say 25ish, but that's my opinion.

i urge you to not listen to some of these people who are saying well into to their twenties. first off it is illegal and thats nto the only thing most guys that are older have a higher sex drive and fooling around with a teen is something they may like to do however you are going to get a reputation for putting out to older guys. age is not that big of a deal once you get out of college my parents are 7 years apart but i would never date someone right now that was 3 years old or younger then me untili am 30 or so its just your still are growing up and should not be dating anyone that out of highschool unless they are a year or two older or a year or two younger just becareful if you daet higher then this your emotional and physical mind is not as old as say a 21 year old guy who may just want to get nito your pants and then leave please becareful

At your age I wasn't interested in boys. But if you are and yet you are so young I wouldn't go much older than twenty because you will be able to relate better to someone who is a similar age, and a man older than that might want a more serious relationship and you are not at that age for anything long term yet. You might also find an older man a bit boaring, as at your age you will want to do what your peer group likes. So if I was your age and I wanted to go out with someone they would not be older than twenty because otherwise he would find me too childish.
