I prefer the staff, i use a 6 foot one. Its my favorite out of its practicality. Its a tree branch, pool stick, or the handle of a broom.
Feel like being decent with a staff can give you an edge just about anywhere you are

Knife is my second. But i live in a college town, not too dangerous, have to walk to bars and what not, and after a few stabbings, they all have metal detectors now. Very useful weapon, but not practicle for my situation.

Last is sword. Swords are fun... sliced my self many times though. Luckily my dad is a doctor, stitches always on hand.

Oh, and i know you weren't asking for practicallity, but thats what drives me towards using certain weapons. There are a lot i would like to learn, and hopefully master one day, but always goign to like what my staff gives back to me.

MY weapon of choice is mainly the bo staff, your basic 6 foot pole.

After that I like some of the more obscure weapons such as the monks spade which is a pole arm with an axe head on one end with the pole set perpendicular to the edge of the blade rather than parallel and on the other end was a crescent shaped blade with the pole set into the outside of the crescent shape.

My Favorite weapon to train with is the Nunchuku

Because if you can work those things without hurting yourself you are truly your own master.

3 section Staff

its fairly rare as to see people master it, i have just begun using it and already ive brused my head and ego many times. Its similar to a Bo staff but cut into 3 sections and linked together by chains. It is considered a "soft" weapon in kung fu/ wushu. The waepon is very versitile in use due to that it can be spun like a staff, poke like a sword, detain like nunchucks, and be whipped around like a whip. But its not an easy weapon to control.

Luk Dim Boon Kwan (Six and a Half Point Staff),
aka Dragon Pole.

Sticking, Sweeping, Shooting, Twisting motions all engaging your enemy at a distance to keep them at a safe distance, especially if they have a weapon.

Not to be cliche, but I like the katana. I am quite into my family history, and the samurai arts fit right in. Also, I have enjoyed the use of naginata and yari, bo, taiji jian, and kama as some of my favorites.

I prefer knives. I practice muy thai mostly, but I workout with a friend who does Kali Eskrima from time to time. Knife fighting is just awesome and fun to learn. You can use two knives or two sticks for they carry the same methods and principles. I have also been getting into the balisong(Butterfly Knife).

Throwing knives would be my favorite (10.5in long) they are nice for doing knife Katas and if you are at the proper distance, a quick flick of the arm will send them impaling into a board.

my fave is either a escrima stick or retractable baton...

escrima stick: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Escrima

retractable baton: http://www.batons.com/mptc/meb_main.html

both are blunt sticks that are about 2 ft + depending on your preference..

there are blocking and striking drills.. the collapsible baton is just that.. closed it's just a short stick, once deployed it can extend up to 2 1/2 ft long.. great for self defense..

Spear, it is simmilar to the bo staff, but has a razor sharp blade on its tip, it is great for fighting people with swords or sais, because you can attack from a distance.
