RETURN TO SENDER

SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) - Federal immigration officials in Santa Ana say they arrested more than 750 illegal immigrant fugitives from 14 countries in what they describe as one of the biggest such sweeps in U-S history.

The weeklong series of raids in the five-county Los Angeles region targeted illegal immigrants who had previously been deported for crimes or had ignored final deportation orders.

The raids netted 338 illegal immigrants who were arrested at their homes and apartments and 423 who were identified in area jails since last Wednesday. Those already jailed will be transferred to federal custody when they finish serving their state sentences.

The sweep netted illegal immigrants from Mexico, Honduras, Ukraine, India, Japan, Poland and Trinidad, among others. Of the 761 people arrested, more than 450 have already been deported.

The raids were a major push within "Operation Return to Sender." The crackdown has resulted in 13-thousand arrests nationwide since June. Immigration officials have also identified three-thousand inmates in state and local jails who will be deported.

This should be happening every day all over this nation.!

A sweep of illegals needs to be done in every city in America, monthly. Take some funds away from rebuilding Iraq or oil company subsidies to pay for it. It would be well worth the money to protect the people of the United States, who pay the taxes our government spends on everybody except it's own citizens.

what immigration sweep? are you talking about any new immigration controls put into place from mexico to the usa?

as to immigration itself: we have enough people here with enough problems that we need to look at our own backyard rather that leaving the doors wide open.

if a person can prove he needs political assylum here, and/or if he can show he has a trade that americans will not perform, then okay, consider him. else, we do not need anymore citizens.

we are the taxpayers. we need to use our taxes to taking care of americans that are already here now. if things change in the future, then we can reopen our doors.

but with the political climate the way it is today, i'd be careful who i let reside here.

Yes. Because they are the cause of all our problems. Now our lives will be so much better. Our spouses will make us happy, our kids will become achievers and we will make lots of money. Everything will be the way we deserve it to be.
