I don't think its a sin. I listen to regular music sometimes when I feel like it...It more like its a waste of time. Think of it as empty calories. You can eat a candy bar & it tastes good, but has no nutritional value, or you can have carrot sticks (listening to christian music or scripture on tape/CD) and feed yourself something good for you. But don't feel guilty, it is not a sin, unless there is swearing in the songs. I listen to country & rock all the time, but not every time, because I know what happens when you have too many empty calories, & not enough healthy things!

Because you are suppose to sing to praise God, not for your own
amusement.
So, before, what we now call classical music was a music of sinners, and was "light" music. The music that was preformed in churches were considered serious and was allowed. If you went to the theatre for operas, it was a sin to confess later.

Not sure why someone would consider the act of choosing music a bad thing. I know that I have to use allot of discernment when choosing what to listen to and/or buy.

What I always wondered was, these bible-pounders who are against secular music... are they against children's songs, like the ones on Barney and Mister Rogers?

No, that's right... they just choose which ones to discriminate against, because so many christians have that classic "holier than thou" attitude because they live repressed lives..

It's complete crap, don't fall for it.

listening to secular music in itself is not a sin, but the thoughts and things you might have and say after words, would be a sin. so its better not to tempt yourself.
