Depending on any future developments concerning the policies necessary to assure public safety from any domestic terror attacks, we could possibly need some type of ID which proves our identity beyond any reasonable doubt. Perhaps not a passport as such, but maybe some type of national ID.
This is an extremely controversial proposal because of what some see as a privacy issue. Why these opponents haven't been upset with their Social Security Cards is beyond me.
Go figure.

No. The passport requirements are only for people crossing an international border.
I have been listening to somebody or the other claim that we will need 'internal passports' for over 40 years.

No. And the real ID act is to insure that stolen identities aren't being used to obtain legal. Its a standardization of verification for each state's IDs and driver licenses.
