If you're a Catholic (by baptism) you might have to attend Confession first, then you should be able to rejoin celebration of the Eucharist. Talk to your local priest first though to clear up any confusion or questions.

Not in a Catholic church. At least technically not, due to the whole "mortal sin" concept, but in reality, I've seen plenty of single parents standing in the Communion line. Also, you can clear this up with Confession. The real question is whether or not you're a baptized and confirmed Catholic. If not, you couldn't take Holy Eucharist in a Catholic church, anyhow.
However, you can take it in the Episcopal Church, no questions asked.
I've just seen your reply, and since you're a baptized Catholic and have been to Confession, you should be all right. The wonderful thing about God is his capacity to forgive. I don't think that God would want you to miss out on the spiritual gift of the Eucharist for the rest of your life. Talk with your local priest, tell him your concerns, and start taking Communion again.

So long as you confessed the sin of fornication (from bearing children out of wedlock) when you received the Sacrament of Confession, it is fine for you to take Communion at mass.

If you are already catholic and have had your first communion, you definitely would have to go to confession first.

In spite of your rocky beginnings you are raising your children on your own which is a heroic act.
Just like the rest of us, if you have confessed your sins then you may receive the Eucharist.
Keep the faith!
With love in Christ.
