PROS:

Helps maintain certain species of wildlife and their environment by keeping the animal's population from exceding its habitat's carry capacity. It can bring wildlife populations up and create a much more nourishing environment for them.

Provides predation for species of animal that no longer have predation due to various reasons. This keeps the ecosystem in balance.

Prevents wildlife populations from getting out of control that will eventually harm the wildlife, their environment, and possibly humans.

Hunters and other sportsmen provide millions of dollars every year to improve wildlide and the environment.

Provides the world with a beneficial food source.

CONS:

Unnecessarily harms animals since humans do not need to rely on hunting or meat to survive.

In some instances it can cause populations of certain species of wildlife to decline. It may also interfere with natural predation.

It all depends on where your morals lie to determine if you are for or against hunting. Hunting can be harmful if not regulated. Most modern, legalized, and regulated hunting IS beneficial and shouldn't be looked over.

I have grown up around hunting. Harvesting animals that are slower than their counter parts is not a bad thing. In the winter these slower animals might not make it. They could starve, wander off to look for more food and and up geting hit by a car or truck and endangering human life.

My husband, daughter nd I eat what we harvest. We also fish and trap. I believe that what we eat is truly more nutritional because of the fact that there are no man made hormones injected into the animal. We don't have cows but purchase one every year from a trusted friend.

Which is worse...me hunting and cutting out the middle man? Buying meat at the grocery, not knowing what I'm getting and paying extra for someone else to kill the animal? We also garden, I cann and freeze our veggies and I do not buy veggies at the grocery. Only from local farmers. My grocery bill is only about $30 per week for a family of three. I don't buy junk either.

Hunting is a long established wildlife management tool. Wildlife biologist spend lots of time establishing the maxi mun capacity of particular environments and through past experience they know what happens when any species exceeds the maximum capacity.

If there was no hunting many species, epically deer would exceed the environmental capacity and thousands would die long and painful deaths of starvation. Many that became weak would fall prey to smaller predators that normally don't take deer such as coyotes and the populations of those pr editors would explode. Then when the deer are gone the pr editors would begin to starve.

Hunting is the solution.

If it were not for hunting the human race would not exist. The pros of hunting besides animal population control for obvious reasons depend and differ from person to person. Our natives hunted to survive. Now a days we hunt for different reasons. Almost everyone can afford to go to their local shopping center and buy steaks. However, I prefer to eat the meat from the animals in which I have harvested. It feel good to truly be able to provide for my family and I know the meat is not pumped full of steroids and than package with preservatives. But there is more to hunting than just killing animals and eating. The camaraderie is great, the scenery is second to none, and the thrill of watching wildlife is amazing. Add all that together and those are some of the reasons I hunt. The cons of hunting however are few. One is the initial cost of purchasing all of your equipment (guns, bows, bullets, arrows, GPS, treestands...ect.) which if done right doesn't need to be very expensive. The biggest con I can think of besides loss of places to hunt due to human development and posted property (which is an issue here in the northeast) is the headache we hunters get every time a PETA, animal activist, or a strongly opposed non-hunter starts insulting us for our decision to hunt. It really upsets me when one of these types of people are criticizing me for hunting while they are on their way out to eat a steak or something. At least my meat wasn't raised on a farm for the sole purpose of food. Not that I have a problem with eating beef or pork or poultry, but how hypocritical can one be. Wild game under fair chase conditions is far more humane. I could go on for days but I'll leave you with that.

Pros: Fun, good experiance, animals were put here for a reason, to hunt them and eat them; "bonding time"(usually between father and son); stress relieving, if you're in Texas and you hunt boar or pig then you're doing the state and farmers a favor, boar and pig are overpopulated and they piss of farmers b/c they eat the crops.

Cons: If you just hunt for a trophy, then its kinda inhumane, costs alot of money if you hunt alot(ammo); if it is a popular hunting area, it can get dangerous(just know where you're shooting and you'll be fine).

PROS Hunting is the oldest, and by all odds the most diversified, sport known to man.It is the only sport , born of grim necessity, which know continues as are creation enjoyed by millions.
The first hunters resorted to the chase to provide at least two of three essentials to human existence-FOOD,CLOTHING, and SHELTER.

The families of the mighty hunter survived;(CON) the others didn't.

The answer why do we hunt is the thrill of the chase has been inherited from our primitive ancestors, and is still a fundamental passion of man.

I'm ambivalent on hunting, but do recognize it as legitimate sport and necessary to species survival. Perhaps that's counter intuitive, but large animal (deer) populations must be held in check. If you really want to see the left wingnut position on hunting, go to PETA's website.
