counter. if you put them in the fridge the sugars will turn into starches and the banana won't be as tasty. You can also put in them in a brown paper bag (with an apple if you have one) on the counter to brown them up faster. The apple emits a gas that ripens the bananas faster.

Bananas are a tropical friut so they like heat and humidity. They will ripen faster at room temperature. To speed the process along, put them in a brown paper bag. Putting bananas in the fridge is not recommended. The peel will turn brown, but the the cold will retard the ripening process. They are fine to eat if you do keep them in the fridge though.

If you put them in the frig the outside will turn black but the inside will stay fresher longer; however leaving them on the countertop helps them be sweeter as they are continuing to ripen...as you know they are picked green but continue ripening after picking. I had a guy from Puerto Rico tell me once that if you'd ever eaten a banana that had been left on the tree long enough to ripen, you'd never TOUCH another store-bought one. Makes sense to me cause that's the way I feel about tomatoes.

In the refrigerator and they will also soften and sog up. Now, you can freeze them for a frozen banana treat but the refrigerator is a no go. Sorry! Leave them on the counter.

The fridge. I put them into the freezer for about 1 hour when I'm making banana bread - this helps me mush them better, and the peels are almost black in that short time.
