In Mexico the wedding band is worn on top of the engagement ring, it shows you first got engaged and then you got married.

Traditionally, the wedding band goes on first ("closer to the heart"), then the engagement ring. But in reality, it's whatever looks better/is more comfortable. I wear my wedding band on the left hand, and my engagement ring on the right, because they're just too bulky to wear on the same finger.
