Consult your Vet first before changing the cats diet. If you change it to quickly your cat could get diarrea or other stomach problems. Purina Cat Chow has a large salections of cat foods that can help. You don't want your cat to get to big. That could result in very pour health. You may want to ask your vet about an indoor formula. I really hope this helps. Good luck.

Cats come in all sizes just like people. Some are destined to be thin others fat. Don't worry about fattening up your cat unless the vet says he's under weight. It's very common for cats be skinny and lanky yet perfectly healthy.
If the cat is definitely under weight, you may want to have him checked for worms. It won't hurt the cat to just give him de-wormer even if he doesn't have worms. Feed him kitten chow, and/or some canned food both will have a relatively high fat content but still be reasonably healthy. If the kitty is severely under weight you can give him kitten milk (Alpo is the brand I'm familiar with) -- you should be able to find it at a pet store -- it comes in a can.

First thing - check with your vet to determine if your cat is the right weight. If your cat is too skinny, then tests should be done to find out if there is medical cause. Older cats tend to get thin as they get older and enter the beginning stages of kidney failure, which is very common. If your cat is old, this might be the problem. Your vet can then advise you on how best to feed your cat if it needs to gain weight. It may be that the food your are feeding is not nutritionally complete and your cat needs a different food.

What breed is your cat? Some breeds are naturally skinny looking, like pure breed Siamese. One way to know if your cat is truely skinny or not, is if you can see his ribs looking at him. If you can see the ribs, I'd take him to the vet. He may have worms or other parasites. The vet will check him over and advise you on what to do to help him gain wieght provided it's not worms or parasites. If he has them, he'll be treated and will start to gain weight shortly. Your vet may want to put him on a prescription food for weight gain also.If everything is OK with your cat and the vet says he's not skinny, then don't worry about things. Also have you had your cat fixed yet? As everyone with a fixed animal knows, they put weight on after being fixed.

Give her a higher protein cat food - even kitten food, which has more calories. Is she always hungry? Or happy w/what you're feeding her. If she's already eating a lot and still hungry and skinny, you may want to get her thyroid checked.

Usually castrated cats are fat, healty cats are fit. Don`t worry, i think your cat is fine...unless you want him to look like Garfield : ) But you can take him to the vet for a check...

I would go and talk to your vet. It is the best way to really tell if your cat is underweight. If the vet says that she/he is, go and get food with more fat.

They have special food at Vet offices that will help him to gain weight. You don't have to make an appt, you can just go in and ask for it.
