Baking soda, or Sodium bicarbonate, is an excellent remedy for occasional heartburn. It works by reacting with and neutralizing excess stomach acids. However, it should only be used occasionally due to the high levels of sodium it contains. For frequent heartburn, try OTC drugs like Zantac or see your doctor.

Try OTC meds like Prilosec or Pepcid on a daily basis if it is a real problem. If occasional just take plain old tums. If these methods do't give relief, see your Dr. Thee maybe a serious reason besides "heartburn'.
