Jesus Camp is a documentary which focuses on Pastor Becky Fischer, a Pentecostal Minister who hosts a summer camp in North Dakota for Christian children. If you're not familiar with this Camp, please google it. If you have seen the dvd, please share your honest thoughts from a Biblical point of view. There are many Christians for and against this camp. How do you feel? Thank You

I have not seen the dvd, but plan to rent it this evening before commenting further. However, I watched clips on youtube posted by a gentleman named NickGisburne, and heard little reference to the fruits of the spirit which are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. (Galatians 5:22-23)

Outraged if the documentary was put on dvd for millions to watch, how can you say it's not the business of others? Isn't that the point of a documentary, to inform others of what one does or believes?

RoseWithin you seem to be the only person who missed the point of this question. Even non-Christians understood that the focus had nothing to do with the gender of Pastors. This is concerning the children. Please be more discerning.

Rosewithin, I just noticed that your reply was to lookn2jc. Sorry about the misunderstanding.

I posted this answer to a nearly identical question this morning:

Isaw it in the theatre a couple of months ago--

Some thoughts:

1. The power of language. PAstor Becky's constant use of war and conflict metaphors, which are commonplace in many evangelical/fundamentalist circles, are very, very disturbing when you're watching this film. Especially when she crosses the line from metaphor to comparison and starts talking about how young american christians should be willing to die for their faith like suicide bombers are...

2. The overwhelming presence of "Brands." From the T-shirts the kids were wearing to the Interstate Fastfood signs, to the bottle of water the kids were getting their sins washed away with, you would think there were contract-laden product placements happening--whether this was a point the filmmakers were trying to make or if it just was an implicit part of showing suburban American life, we certainly got a look into the overwhelming power of Materialism, capitalism, and consumerism in American Culture.

3. Ted Haggard came off as a complete ***.

4. I'm glad the kids featured have found a purpose in life, I just wish it could be directed in a more life-affirming, less anti-intellectual direction...

BTW, the filmmakers are quite good--this is not a vicious propoganda film. You should also check out an earlier film of theirs--_The Boys of Baraka_--neither film is vicious, but they certainly are unflinching in showing the less than pretty sides of their subjects.

America, no matter how we view it, is essentially a CAMP, a military country. Almost every boy will get into the military. So then, I'd think there is a military mindset of many of the parents, thinking they needed to toughen up the kids. Children do have to toughen up, but more like 'tough love', more like knowing how to say 'no' to evil things. Parents might think this helps. I wonder if there are any follow ups to actually show what becomes of the ones that go there? They need some research done on these things. I would find it 'the god of forces', but I don't 'know it all' (I hope I know this much).

I saw clips, I think its a little crazy. They should know better, and it gives outsiders an oppinion that christians have a fanatical belief. Many people believe in god and live normal lives, however, if someone were to view that documentary, they would believe thats the majority and not the minority. I know that some Christians just go overboard, I dont like Jehovah witnesses knocking on my door either. So alot of Christians need to wake up and realize that not everyone is going to be saved. There is limitations to their attempts.

Sounds like it would be a very interesting show to watch. I would have to watch the entire show before I could honestly give my viewpoint on it.

From what I've read, it sounds like a movie and not a documentary.

lookn2jc: what is your post got to do with this movie? Are you saying according the Christians, women are not to be pastors? If you are referring to Paul telling the women to be quiet, while he was preaching, then you are brainwashed thinking there is no place for women in God's church. Paul didn't tell them meaning they could NOT be teachers or preachers. You need to learn the custom of that day. Where were the women sitting vs the men that day when Paul told the women to be silent? any one know that answer? You better read and study to show thyself approved... don't ride on the shirttails of any one. If you do, you will stumble and fall more times than you can bat your eyes.

Who was the first to see Jesus upon His resurrecting from the grave? What was the judge's name that lead the people?

God created man and woman equally, don't put a limitation on God's creation of woman. It is OK for women to be part of the pastoral body of the church.

I have not seen the DVD, I have only seen the previews so what I am about to say is based only on that. I think some of the stuff that they do is totally out there. It's o.k. for children to love God, but some of the methods, I have a bit of a problem with that.

I'm an Agnostic, so I oughtent be answering by the terms of the question; but it seems to me to be rather remeniscent of Hitler Youth Camps of not so long ago.

The look in the eyes of the people in the photos on the official website is exactly that of the child handing Hitler flowers in the famous photo from the 1930's, or that of the Sturmtroopers saluting the swatstika.

First of all, "Pastor" Becky can't be the husband of one wife, so she's NOT a Biblical Pastor. Second of all, it makes a mockery of Christianity. No wonder unbelievers think we're all nuts! Well, we are NOT all like that! Some of us follow the TRUE teachings of the Word of God!

I am Pentecostal, and there is nothing wrong with what is depicted in that Video. We Worship like that. We Weep. We shout. We do all the thing's that you see in the video. It really isn't anyones busyness.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
What I meant is that it isn't the Busyness of people who don't believe as we do to condemn our Worship, what we Teach our Children at a Christian Camp, or how we conduct our Christian Camps.

I think it's a load of crap made by someone who hates Christianity. Honestly, I can take a camera into a pagan festival and edit it to make them look like a bunch of raving loons. (If I follow around my exes, there's not much to edit for that.) Or, go to a Jewish synagogue and make them look evil (which I don't think they are, this is an example). I don't think it was as bad as they made it out to be. Just creative editing and putting in the "juicier" bits in a way that made the people seem evil.

From the film:

"It's no wonder, with that kind of intense training and discipling, that those young people are ready to kill themselves for the cause of Islam. I wanna see young people who are as committed to the cause of Jesus Christ as the young people are to the cause of Islam. I wanna see them as radically laying down their lives for the Gospel as they are over in Pakistan and Israel and Palestine and all those different places, you know, because we have... excuse me, but we have the truth!"
