Please help! We have had our new dog for several weeks now. He does come inside sometimes, but when we are not home he stays outside and has a dog house.

But he is chewing our plants and chewed up a wooden bench. How do we get him to stop chewing??? He already has bones and chew toys!

I use to have a mastiff and he chewed until he was a year old, the only thing you can do is offer him something appropriate to chew on, good luck with that because mine chewed everything we gave him into pieces even those kong treat toys didnt' work for him, you have to stay with him when inside the house and be consistant with telling him no don't leave him alone at anytime and give him a break he's only 11weeks old. and he's teething give him ice cubes to play with and chew on

My dog is a german shep/great dane mix. He ate a couch, a love seat, numerous TV remotes, cell phones, and too many other things to mention when he was a puppy. Just about drove us crazy. He's 3 years old now. He grew out of it. One thing that helped us was to take a clean dish towel, soak it in water, wring it out and then put it in the freezer for a couple of hours. Chewing on cold ragsicles helped soothe his poor, sore teeth.

Another issue with excessive chewing is boredom. Dogs really use their mouths when they play. You can really see it when puppies start nipping at each other's paws in an attempt to get something fun started. Having your puppy get lots of exercise, both walks and socializing with other dogs, will go a long way in tiring out that jaw and keeping him from gnawing on things. A tired dog is a happy dog is a not chewing on off limits things dog.

As for chew toys, you just have to keep searching for the chewie that appeals to your dog. Our dog isn't interested in Kongs, but he LOVES ropes!

A dog should be trained on how to eat, walk with you, not to bark, potty training and sleep on its place etc. You can teach anything to your puppy, dogs get trained easily with some good instructions. If you want some good training tips visit https://tr.im/liHoN

If properly trained, they should also understand whistle and gesture equivalents for all the relevant commands, e.g. short whistle or finger raised sit, long whistle or flat hand lay down, and so on.

It's important that they also get gestures and whistles as voice may not be sufficient over long distances and under certain circumstances.

Well, it is a natural thing for a young puppy to be a chewer. I would suggest some Bitter Apple Spray. It costs about 7 bucks and works.

You need to keep a constant eye on him and correct him when you catch him in the act by redirecting him to something that is ok to chew on,like a toy.

You could build a good size dogrun that is away from your plants. Some plants and shrubs are poison and could make him sick.
