most are highballs
those are easy
e.g.
"rum and coke" , "gin and tonic" (the name says it all)
"vodka 7" (vodka and 7up or sprite)
or beer (again easy)
You should also learn how to make a good martini
a crantini
an apple martini
(see a trend here - learn a bunch of martinis)

Every establishment is different. As a bartender you may work in a pub slinging beer and maybe mixing one drink a night or in a high-class cocktail lounge where the shakers never stop. No matter where you start or end up there is a basic list of drinks that every bartender should know.
Memorizing a good list of common mixed drinks and cocktails will also help you get your foot in the door when applying for your first tending position. Granted, you're not going to be expected to know every drink out there but there are some that you will be expected to be familiar with by both the bar manager and patrons. Many establishments also have specialties or local favorites that you'll get the hang of in no time, this list is very general and a good primer for beginning a rewarding career tending bar.

Vodka and Tonic
Vodka Martinis
Beer
Wine
Bloody Marys
My trick is the 3 count method: Pour your spirits for a count of 3 (at home I do 4 but who's counting?)
My special Bloody Mary recipe
Over ice pour 4 counts vodka, 2 dashes Worcestshire sauce, 3 dashes Tabasco, a dash of celery salt and a dash of Old Bay Seasoning. Fill with Clamato Juice (a tomato and clam juice mixture) add a twist of lemon and ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm a Dirty Girl Martini
Mix in a shaker with ice
3 parts Grey Goose Vodka
1 part dry Vermouth
olive juice to taste (about 1-2 tbs)
shake well and strain
serve in a Martini glass with extra olives

Vodka and Tonic is very popular, especially with women. About 2cm of vodka and give them a bottle of tonic.

I used to drink White Russians. Since this is a layered drink, start out with the:
Vodka1 oz. slowly add:
Kahlua 1 oz. slowly add:
Cream1 oz.
Don't mix!
Take it easy with White Russians -very fattening!
