Either one can do a fine job. What matters is the amount of experience the person has, how well he/she listens and is able to direct you towards a flattering haircut.

Yes, they both had to learn the same techniques, but how many years experience do they have? My brother in law is a barber and only cuts male hair. He hasn't cut a girls hair since school 3 years ago. So I'd say he has more experience with cutting male hair than a beautician who would cut all types of hair.

Actually both. A barber and a beautician had the learn the same basic cut whether with scissors or razors.

It depends on what you want and who you go to.

Cosmetologists focus more on style and creativity and cringe at the thought of doing a high 'n' tight. And don't even ask one to give a headshave! (A few rare exceptions, though).

Barbers will do primarily the ultra short and buzzed/shaved looks that many men go for. Most of their clientele is male. Women will, for the most part, only go to a barber if they want to trim the ends or are getting an ultra short cut that they can't get from a cosmetologist.

It depends, barbers go for specifically male cuts, where cosmetologists are trained to do both men and women. I've had to fix a few cuts from a barber though. It all depends on who you get.

not sure but a barber leaves my bestfriend's hair nicer than when he goes to a beautician.

Depends. Do you want it styled or do you need a "high and tight?"
Salon for a styled look. Barber for a buzz type cut.
