If youre single, it wrecks your self confidence and everywhere you look are couples pretending to be having a great time, if you've been seeing someone a short time youre full of nerves about 'doing the right thing' and if you've been together a long time its bound to be disappointing when your partner buys you a new deep fat fryer. Its commercial rubbish and puts a smile on very few faces! Of course I'll change my mind if I get a nice pressie next month!
Tell him youre not up for presents, cards and all that nonsense and instead spend some quality time together tucked up in bed -- I am sure he wont think that is un-romantic!

You wager they do! Denmark, Finland, Italy, Turkey, Australia and Belgium have a good time mom's Day on an same day because the USA. different countries have a good time mom's Day as well, although no longer on an same day. moms day honestly began in historic Greece, the human beings paid tribute to Rhea, the mummy of the Gods, each and every spring. somewhat later in heritage that is observed that England paid homage to moms on "Mothering Sunday," the fourth Sunday of Lent. In 1872, Julia Ward Howe (who wrote the words to the conflict hymn of the Republic) stated the idea of mom's Day, notwithstanding it become bypass over Anna M. Jarvis (1864-1948), of Philadelphia, who began a letter-writing campaign to a form of influential those who made mom's Day a nationwide vacation.

I Agree and the commercial crap is already in the shops. What a fake country the UK has become.
What is now being sold in the shops cheapens what Valentines day is supposed to represent. Sharing love and not about who can buy the most gross looking card and horrible looking white fluffy teddy.

Valentine's is not a big deal over here although the marketing for it is growing. Since I have no valentine's tradition, I really don't miss it and can't see the point. I mean, you can surprise your loved one any day instead of having to work something out. I'm with you and prefer spontaneity!

I suggest that you not express your true feelings about v-day to your new boyfriend and see what special plans he makes for the day. You'd be surprised if he didn't make any big deal about it either. Would that really be okay with you? How about your birthday? Would it be okay if there were no special occasions worth making an effort to celebrate? V-day should be fun festive occasion where people express their affection for one another. I think it's cool that couples plan in advance for v-day. Why are you so crabby about it?!

I'm kind of on the fence on this one. While I agree that its a huge retail rip off (and guys suffer more than we girls do!) there isn't anything wrong with NOT doing something. It doesn't have to cost anything and I promise you it will mean more than the biggest card in all of hallmark because it took time and effort and well shows your special person that you thinking of them and they are worth the effort involved in for example making a dinner and a swirly heart on top of the potatoes in Shepherds pie or something. I know its a bit cheesy but it does take the sting out when you see "Ms All That" getting her big whopper of flowers and candy and the limo coming to take her out to dinner because you know it meant more to your guy than forking out a load of cash...which his secretary probably did for him!

Its just an excuse by the card companies to rip people off into buying overly-priced cards and gifts. People should tell their loved ones that they are loved when they want to and NOT when they are emotionally blackmailed etc by these companies to do so!!
and yes I am probably just seeing it that way as I'm single and maybe slightly bitter at having to watch all you loved up people get slushy!!

I think it's a total waste of time so the card shops can hyke their prices up along with the flower shops
If my bloke spent anything on me on valentines day I would throw it back in his face and go off it with him for wasting money
Love is a daily thing not a once in a year thing

I'm not too fussed about valentines day either, would rather have a bloke that treated me with respect all year round than one that treated me like a doormat and then spoiled me with useless crap one day of the year.
its too commercialised and there is nothing original and spontaneous about this holiday.

If you don't want to celebrate Valentine's Day I'm sure your b/f won;t mind but you may feel bad after everyone talks about what they got.
