the hebrews didn't have any laws against polygamy. in judaism it didn't become forbidden until a thousand years ago when the rabbis enacted laws against it, although the law didn't reach jews living in arabs lands where its still socially accepted and so polygamy still occurs among arab jews on occasion even today. as for christianity, they always looked down on it and never practiced it but it was not really illegal. catholics seem to have never done it, but martin luther permitted it in some cases and the anabaptists also allowed it.

Personally I don't think there is anything wrong with polygamy. However, if a man has several wives and if one day his wives decided to sleep with other men, get pregnant by other men. Don't get mad or even be surprised. Really, what did you expect.

I think that Christianity looks down upon polygamy because Jesus and Paul both seemed to imply that God's original intent was that each man would have one wife, and each woman would have one husband. I didn't find any passage in the Bible that expressly forbids it, however.

Who says it's a sin? It says that a polygamist can't lead the church. No where does it say that it's a sin.. It's against the Law in the US especially in Utah... Jim
