like what? The same reason it takes a baby to understand stuff, they really don't know what we are saying... Dogs hear a command like "sit" they don't know what that sound means, but if they put their butt on the floor, they get attention or a treat, they begin to associate the sound and their correct action with a reward. just like it takes humans a while to understand things

Just like humans it takes a dog about 30 repetitions to understand a new command. That is assuming that there are no distractions, and the command is given the same way every time. After that, the dog probably understands the command, it just has not been taught that it MUST mind. That is when it needs to start recieving corrections for not minding.

its a little weird to say this but a dog needs love and care during training. if he follows cuddle him up,scratch his neck,(dogs love it) while saying "good boy, good boy" or any sweet language so theylle know their doing good give them also a treat. training a dog by yourself is really hard since your not an expert, but attending classes could be expensive. so train your dog its worth a try. when going out say "come on boy, come on" or any thing that is easy to learn. make sure he has his rewards. but before he can do that, the basics are "no" and "good" say no in a stern voice but dont spank him say good or give a treat out when he does something good or leaves your "chewed up rubber shoes =). thats the way to train it;) also watch animal planet, "cell dogs" its very nice you can have a little pointers there. here's a tip if you want him to follow tie a long rope (thin) on the dog's collar. have someone to hold it away from the dog and call it, if it will come to you, try this excercise everyday w/ love and treats it'll sure follow you.

Dogs understand stuff just fine, it's the owners who are slow to figure it out.

...because they are canines-not humans. How long would it take you to "understand" life in a dogs world and communication methods starting from when you an infant?

To what "sutff" are you referring?
We find that dogs catch onto things relatively quickly and easily when with a trainer who knows what he or she is doing.

I've found it's because the person trying to teach them doesn't know what they're doing!
