If an alien species sent an undisputed message to earth that said; we will blow up your planet from afar (so no way to escape it) unless you acheive peace in 6 months. Because you are so stupid we will tell you how you must do this. You must abolish all religion.. You must abolish all borders. You must create a declaration of humanity that will apply to each and every human on the planet. Who would you vote to write this accord, could it be accomplished and would we even do it.

What would be some of the declarations in this accord more importantly.

I would use the Internet to organize millions of people all around the globe to arrange the most powerful spotlights they could rent into a message the alien spies in orbit could read. It would spell

"K I S S
M Y
A Z Z,
E T !"

Seriously, though. Any alien species that presented such demands and accompanied them with a threat of annihilation would constitute a danger to everything humans hold dear. If we were invited to join a galactic federation in which we'd have a voice in the legislature, that would be different, but just showing up and demanding that we do what they say would be tyranny on an entirely new scale. Even if we were able to convince people to abolish all religions (which I would think impossible) and eliminate borders (easier task), it wouldn't really matter. Let's say we do all they ask. What will they demand next? Are we to be slaves? A tributary?

But doing something is better than just giving up. Survival has with it the possibility (however small) of eventually overthrowing our new masters. I'd fax a copy of the Charter of the United Nations and Universal Declaration of Human Rights to their mothership to show that we're a reasonable people who are striving for peace, then I'd work tirelessly to ratify a charter of the World Federation.

It depends on how they define "religion"... because I hate to say it but Buddhism's got a great formula for peace, but it means people would have to come out of their sense of "self" and become more altruistic to do it.

I can't imagine it working for that very reason... too many people are quite happily wrapped up in their own ego, sense of self-cherishment, and opinions as being the "only right one". Absolute altruism isn't the easiest thing in the world to work for even IF you're born with an altruistic mind, to one degree or another.

BTW that was actually fun.

substitute the equations equation 1: 7x + 5y -13 = 0 equation 2: x - 7y + 3 = 0 ==> x = 7y - 3 7(7y - 3) + 5y - 13 = 0 x - 7y + 3 = 0 49y - 21 + 5y - 13 = 0 x - 7(17/27) + 3 = 0 54y - 34 = 0 x - (119/27) + 3 = 0 54y = 34 x - (38/27) = 0 y = 34/54 or 17/27 x = (38/27) (x, y) = ((17/27), (38/27))

It would never happen. Religions would deny it, trusting in god or asserting that this was the apocalypse and the faithful would be raptured before the destruction. Nationalists would refuse to relinquish power. And those who wanted to comply would take far more than six months to hammer out an accord.

Knowing humanity, we'd instead invest heavily in a weapon that would mutually destroy the alien species as well.

don't know, but sounds like the Kingdom of the Antichrist as prophecized in the bible, where all will be forced to worship the religion of the antichrist.
