For the past couple of days, I have noticed my heart palpitating after walking short distances. For example, if I walk up and down a flight of stairs and down a hall, my heart suddenly "jerks" and goes crazy.
Know what this is? I have never experienced this before.

It's called atrial fibrillation. You need to go to the doctor.

Is it possible that you have neglected your body for so long and it is giving you some advance notice that if you continue like that it would fail you?.
Are you at your ideal weight?. Do you exercise at a medium high intensity every day?. If your answer is no, it may be some advance sign that you are taking the wrong road.
Sudden death is one of the main causes of death. If you take 3-6 grams of fish oil par day, you may avoid it.

It shouldnt be serious unless you feel signs of arrythmia (abnormal heart beats)..beating too fast (100+ beats/minute) could mean you're trachycardic. This can be caused if you have an electrolyte abnormality (low potassium) or significant risk factors for heart disease. It might also mean you have an abnormal heart valve. Remember, these are all causes only for if you have an actual abnormal heart beat, so I'd suggest you see a doctor just to be safe.

I would suggest make an appointment with your doctor. There can be many reasons for the palpitations. For instance to much stress on the heart, high blood pressure etc. Please make an appointment today. It maybe nothing but it's not worth waiting around to find out.

It sounds like you really need to see a doctor, it could be anything,it could be anxiety, or it could be more.
