The Holy Spirit is God.... as is Jesus... so has always existed.... The holy Spirit is that part of God that interacts with manikind... befor the sacrifice of Jesus The Holy spirit came and went among men... God did not "indwell" men.... the job needed to be done with the individual was done and The Spirit left.... Now, since the Sacrifice of Jesus and the founding of the Church on earth, those who come to God as He prescribes are indwelt by The Spirit which stays with the individual untill they receive their new Body in Heaven.... a bit more complicated but that is the thumbnail version....

The Holy Spirit has always been as The Lord Jesus has. God personified himself in the personage of Christ so that we may be able to understand and relate to the one and only Holy God which, we seem to be having a hard time doing thus the Holy Spirit leads us. Luk 4:1 And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,

The Holy Spirit was there before Jesus came; Jesus did His miracles and teaching in the power of the Holy Spirit; the Holy Spirit came to baptize and fill the church after the resurrection of Jesus.

"because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit" Matthew 1:20. If the Holy Spirit was responsible for the earthly conception of Jesus, your answer is questioned right away.

Also check out Genesis 1:2 "and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters".

We did not receive the Holy Spirit though until after Christ. Until then it was just beckoning and waiting for its time to fill us, but we needed atonement first.

David once asked the Holy Spirit not to depart from Him. The Holy Spirit in pre-cross times did come and did exist but didn't abide and live in a believer in a permanent way. Sin prevented it. The cross cleansed the vessel so that the Holy Spirit could enter and reside permanently. He, the Holy Spirit, came in that way on the day of Pentecost after the cross and now does so in all believers bringing them life.
Like canning peaches....you can't put peaches in dirty jars. First you clean the jars, then add the peaches then seal them for preservation.
The sins of mankind were cleansed, so the Holy Spirit could abide permanently and then the Holy Spirit sealed us up to preserve us until death or until the Lord returns.
The world has cleansed jars but unbelievers have no "peaches" and are not sealed. They are clean but empty and unsealed jars.

yes it did. one of the names for the holy spirit is the counselor. before jesus left he said he would leave us with a counselor. read John 16:5-11 in the bible. diffrent translations may have a diffrent name. but anyways the holy spirit existed during jesus's time because, because of the trinity the holy spirit is part of god and god is the begggining and the end.

The Holy Spirit has existed from eternity. However, He became active in the life of the early Church on Pentecost.
