I'm going to assume when you say "burn alive" you mean until death. First, depending on the amount of heat involved, there could, and most likely would be, several minutes of extreme pain as the soft tissues are burned. The dermis has a number of different receptors for pain and most of them would be triggered at this time. Eventually, if the person were still conscious, they would feel little to no pain at all as all the pain receptors were burned off. That's on the outer surfaces. You still have the eyes, nasal passages, naso-oropharynx, trachea, and the lungs themselves that would be burned by the heated air. All in all, and I've seen it first hand, its one of the worst ways a person can die. The person also screams the most terrible screams you can imagine. The kind that haunt you in your sleep. They also evacuate their bladder and bowels. That's what I "think" happens when you burn alive.

As a Fire Chief I have seen it, more than once!!
While its true that pain isn't a factor after third degree burns, you have to realize the extreme pain before getting to that degree. It is a horrible while to die.

I think I heard somewhere it's not as painful (But still painful) as people think because you end up suffocating before to long.

if you are in a house fire, you go unconscious from the gases within the smoke so you dont feel it. most house fires the victim is dead and the fire never even touched them.

It hurts very, very badly! Duh. Lol. I've heard that burn victims suffer the most pain. I believe it.

I've literally seen people CHARCOALED...actually turned black...and still survive! I doubt it feels good!
