I have lived in California all my life...I think this law is good and bad. I have never abused my children, however when the first learned how to get around and would touch something really dangerous (electrical outlet, curling iron..etc..) I would spank them quickly, I wanted them to associate a swat on the butt with something so dangerous. Does that make me a bad parent? I don't think so and they are all much older now and seem to be fine. That to me is the only reason to physically punish them. I disagree with the law for that reason, however any other reason I think I would agree...but how in the world is one government going to be able to monitor that?

I'm sorry but if i lived in Cali or anywhere and a law like that passed. Not that it would but if it did. I'd move. That's just ridiculous. When did parents stop being parents? It's the lack of discipline in today's youth that contributes to the youth problems we've been having. Children are being taught they could get away with anything without consequences. I'm sorry but sit in the corner and think about what you've done is not my idea of discipline, when your kid goes on a shooting rampage at his HS tell me how much good those sit on this step until you say your sorry does the victims of a child who thinks the only consequence for their actions is nothing. i don't condone abuse and beating your child is never a good idea, but there is a big difference between spanking your child in discipline and beating them. They have to learn that bad actions have bad consequences not quiet tI'me and im sorries don't fix it if your going to turn around and do it again because you know I'm sorry with make it go away.

Boy oh boy. They just want to keep pushin peoples buttons the government, dont they. Well I think this is absolutely ridiculous, and if someone said something to me or tried to ticket me or what ever they would do, id say the same thing my mom used to say(when i told her id call the cops for spanking me) FINE....go ahead! Its no ones business how you disipline your child unless that child is in danger. only then it becomes someone elses deal.and a child being spanked on a diaper butt(which likely most that young are), was maybe doing something dangerous to be spanked in the first place. Hmmmm.....finger in the light socket, grabbing cord from the counter, pulling things from store shelves?I would say those are much more dangerous than my hand. Most parents are spanking for a reason, not because its fun. They need to let it go.

i dont live in california but its a stupid law. i have a three year old and ive never spanked her really hard. but i do give her smacks on her bottom and i used to smack her hand if she did something bad (after she was a year or so old, before that, i know she didnt know any better and i just told her no) so i very much disagree with the law. but i do agree that u shouldnt smack or spank a child just because ur in a bad mood (im against abusing ur child in any way of course)

It will never be passed anyway, but I don't agree for a couple reasons, mainly because it irks me that people think that just because they don't agree with a particular parenting style, they can do away with it completely. Spanking is not abusive, and no parent should have to pay $3000 or whatever it is for smacking their kid on the hand or swatting it on the butt.

I completely disagree.....it is just one more thing that the gov. is trying to get into our lives. There is a differance between beating a child and spanking for disipline.....They say its not aimed at those you use spanking in the proper ways, but it will keep those who go overboard from doing it.....for one thing...those people that beat their kids already breaks the laws now....so what another law to them....just another think on the charges when they go to court...and it takes away an affective means of disipline for those of use who don't beat our kids.

I think it is good but it is sad that it has to be a law to enforce people from spanking a child under 3. Why would you need to. They are a small child that looks up to you for love and help. You can teach kids right from wrong without spanking them

That is absolutely the craziest weirdest totalitarian police state bull i have ever heard of,we need a revolution in that state, their going way to far.all a legislator want to do is make more stupid laws..If a parent hurts a child badly then you hurt them.yes.but NO ONE tells me what to do with MY child, or how to discipline them.I would move to another State.darn government

I think thats a little much. I'm against spanking, but tapping a child's hand- half to cause pain and half to get their attention-isn't that bad.

Any smart parent wouldn't spank a child under the age of 3. What could a 3 and under possibly do wrong to get spanked? What ever they are doing is part of them learning. If a parent is spanking a small child that should be considered abuse and it's already a law. This is stupid.
