what should I do now? Do I need to phone up the insurance company and tell them I will probably be doing about 17 or 18,000 miles because my circumstances have changed? Is this likely to add to the cost of my cover? cheers in advance. ps for the record the car is a £1,000 Skoda so we are only talking a cheap car here, not a Ferrari.

i think it is safer to let them know and it may be in your terms and conditions that you do. the danger is that if you don't and you are involved in an accident they will not pay out because you have not been truthful with them, so i would definitely tell them

You shouldn't have to phone up your insurance company. They are not going to render your insurance null and void just because you are doing a few extra miles. If you do phone them then they will charge you more but not ure how much. You don't say how old you are but if you are under 21 you might be able to save money next time by restricting your driving times. I think more than have a policy that is cheaper if you don't drive between midnight and six AM. This is fine in theory but you're knackered if you work night shifts.

you should let your insurance company know if you think you are going to travel more than 10,000 miles, for the purpose of claims, and honesty. im not sure if it will increase the cost of your cover, but its better to be safe and be honest.

How will the Ins. Co. know? I put low mileage down every year, but it is never checked, although the new MOT puts it on a national computer, so big brother may check it out. Do not worry, alter it on your renewal.

I wouldn't worry about it as the insurance company won't know what your mileage at the start of the policy was, so they won't know how far you've gone.
