Me and my friend are going to Toronto in February for one week. (Saturday to Saturday) and I'm trying to do a rough itinerary.

While we are there we are going to New York for a couple of nights (as it is close - well compared to London anyway!)
We have booked flights to New York on Tuesday returning to Toronto on the Thursday.

We are English, will we have any trouble going in and out of USA?
We have return flight tickets from Toronto back to UK so I am assuming it will be ok but just checking.

We want to go in to USA twice you see. We want to go to Niagara Falls and either stay somewhere near there and next day go to buffalo OR the same day as Niagara, go over the border to buffalo and then come back to Toronto next day. And then fly to New York as I have explained. Can we fit going to Niagara - Buffalo - Toronto between sunday morning and back before Monday Night??

All of this using public transport. Any ideas?? Thanks.

You should have no problem with US Immigration unless you have Muslim names, but the Yanks also have a "No Fly List" of names of people that is chock full of errors (even some famous American politicians such as Senator Kennedy was on it!). You might want to see if you can check it when you are at Heathrow or Gatwick or wherever you are flying to Canada from.

As for going to Buffalo and Niagara Falls from Toronto by public transit: that's a problem. No trains to Niagara; only one a day to/from Buffalo. You might check the busses, but I'd rent a car for one day. However please be aware that there is nothing much in Buffalo, abandoned by half its population in the past 40 years. Likewise the American city of Niagara Falls is ugly and slummy and crime-infested. Stay on the Canadian side (better Falls views anyway).

Also, I hate to seem negative but your bookings do not seem to have allowed much wiggle time in case there is a severe winter storm on any of your flight dates for Toronto and New York. A bad blizzard can cost you a day or two of your holiday waiting at the airport. (We have had an incredibly almost snowless winter so far - we are overdue!)

There is not much to do or see in Buffalo and so would avoid it if there is no reason to be there. Go to Toronto and visit Niagara Falls from there. It should not take you more than a couple of hours to get there and is just a day trip. I am not sure about public transport from Toronto to Niagara but there are plenty of car hire companies around.

Flights between Toronto and New York will not be a problem.

Why would you want to go to Buffalo from Toronto? Unless you have something very specific you want to do there, just stay in Toronto. Buffalo is a dirty industrial town. The falls look better on the Canada side too.

confusing schedule.

possibly just do niagara on the canadian side since it is better. forget buffalo. that place doesn't excite me personally. should rent a car it would be easier for the most part since there is very little in options to travel city to city. greyhound bus lines would be the only exception to car. rail is not set up to do much on the canadian side.
