Yes. It can if it hasn't been stored properly, or if it has been exposed to temperature extremes. The can has an expiration date on it either on its label or stamped on its lid (or bottom).

Most canned vegetables and soups have a shelf life of about two years under ordinary storage conditions. They will last longer if refrigerated.
After that, taste may suffer and some nutritional value may be lost, but the product will still be safe to eat.
Most canned products have an expiration date, but that's just a guideline. It isn't like milk. It can be extended with good storage (cool, dry place like a wine cellar), or thrashed with bad conditions.

Yes, I once opened a can of corned beef and it tasted like RUST, it was aweful! It was in my grandmothers cabinet. I dontknow how old it was but like alot of people I though canned foods last forever,, NOT TRUE!

If it has been stored properly and there is no damage to the can they should last pretty much forever. That is why you're supposed to stock your bomb shelter with canned food! ;)

also, don't use if they are dented because that means the can could have started rusting, or the food inside has gone bad.
