I am a part of a program at my high school where we go to our local preschool and teach the kids. We get to make lessons ourselves and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas. I have to make an art project for nutrition week.. or for the letter H but i have no ideas. It should take roughly around 10-15 minutes.. someone please help me!

I just did this. I put magazines and scissors out on the table (preferably cooking and recipe magazines) and had the kids cut out pictures of healthy foods to eat. Or to save on time, go ahead and precut a bunch of pictures of different kinds of food. Have them glue the pictures to a paper plate and make a collage of healthy food.

You can also make a collage on a piece of paper that you later laminate and turn into placemats.

Hi
I'd suggest for the kids to make paper cuttings of various foods, obviously painting them as they go along whilst you're all discussing over which ones are healthy and why they're needed (the vitamins and nutrition they provide).
After they finish doing it - in small groups or individually they can glue the pieces of food (fruits, vegetables, pasta - different food groups) onto paper plates (already provided).
I think this would make 10-15 minutes, and might be useful and interesting.

Make stamps out of fruits and vegetables and use tempera paint rather than ink. Cut apples in half...they make lovely prints. Use the leaves of celery to paint strokes or make leaf prints. Use the stalks for C's (for celery). Potatoes can be cut into any shape and are also firm enough to use as stamps. Make a "marbled" effect using grapes and a shoe box. Let your imagination go wild. Children of this age LOVE this kind of activity. Have plenty of cut up snacks for them to enjoy after painting. :D

Remember, preschoolers develop at vastly different rates. Some will need hands on help and some will be able to do it all by themselves. Concepts are probably beyond them...but by exposing them to healthy snacks, you have presented a lesson and some fun that they will remember.

It really depends on the age. For little kids, cut up apples and other healthy food. They can be used as stamps with paint.

For older kids, give them cut out of a person with a big belly. They can make a collage of yummy, healthy food inside fo the belly.

Help them cut out pictures of food from magazines. Then they can group them into food groups or make a food pyramid and use a glue stick to glue them onto a piece of colored paper. Help them label the food groups and they can take it home and stick it up on their refrigerator.

If perhaps it's a fruit they have seeds, otherwise it's a vegetable. And vegetables are usually grown in the ground while fruits are grown in trees.
