My boyfriend asked me to marry him, but my dad, last time someone asked me this, he flipped and wouldn't let me near the guy. What should i do? I really want to, but i still live with my father since i'm not anywhere near ready to be on my own. I don't want my family to hate him.

If you are not ready to be out on your own, you are definitely not ready to be married. Marriage is more responsibility than living on your own, not less.
Tell your boyfriend that you are not ready for marriage.
Then do what you have to do to get ready for independence.

Perhaps your father is old fashioned. Instead of both of you telling your father that you became engaged, have your boyfriend ask your father for your hand. If you say you are not ready to be on your own have part of the conversation be how he is going to be able to support you. I am sure that is a huge concern of your father. I know it may sound corny, but it might gain your father's respect toward him.

How old are you? If you are adult and done with school, there is not much he can say to stop you. However, if you are not financially secure, you should wait to get married. Money is one of the things couples fight about most and if anything should happen and you find yourself alone, you need to be able to support yourself.

how old are you? and if your dad is getting upset, it he may have valid reasons, talk it over with him in a neutral territory, don't get defensive, let him voice his concerns, and be willing to take what he has to say with a grain of salt, it may just be that he doesn't want to see his "little" girl grow up and leave him.

At 17, with no job, you are still too young to be getting engaged. Worry about your studies, not boys.

It all depends onm your age. if you live with your dad, you sound young. make sure you are ready for this!
