I've heard that salmon can be a great supplement to a dogs diet, it has stuff in it that is great for them. just watch the amounts, it is pretty high in fat and calories.

Salmon is a great protein for dogs. Many new kibble brands are offering salmon blends. Tinned salmon is fine. Some fresh salmon has been found to carry a bacteria that can cause problems.Canned is fine though. You'll see an improvement in coat condition within a few weeks of regular feeding.

don't know about salmon, but my collie is allergic to meat and so gets vegetarian food and canned tunna - she absolutly loves the tuna and does really well on it. Also it's not much more expensive than dog meat, but salmon is very expensive for a dog.

I dont know but i was always told by my parents never to give the dogs fish......dont know why I just figured that there was a good reason for it. My mom has a dog who is allergic so you might want to watch that when you feed dogs human foods.....this dog is allergic to corn, some kinds of flour and fish......so I just dont give my dogs people food. Better to be safe than sorry! Thats my theory anyway!

I've always been told or heard that "people food" was bad for dogs. But I notice that fish oils are included in dry dog food to improve the appearance of their coats. I think this one is for the vet...
P.S. My Schipperke LOVES shrimp - just a LITTLE bit though. He has VERY good taste - just look at his Mother!!
