My roommate got pulled over and was arrested for possession of marijuana 2 oz. The cops took him to jail thursday the 18th. We tried to get him out on bail, but no one wanted to co sign. His mom had went to talk to him and rumors spread that he would probably be out this thursday. (one week total) people who have been through this or friends have etc, how long did they stay in there?

he was arrested in conroe texas, about 30 minutes outside of houston, and his court bail was 750, and they said each day he's in there counts as 4 days. I know nothing about the jail system.

I am in Texas also, so this might help out a lot. There are a lot of things deciding on how long he is in jail for.
Since no one can bond him out, he will have to be in jail until his court date. Normally for misdemeanor courts, that isn't too long at all, but it could take a couple of weeks depending on the charge. If no one can bond him out, he can try to get a PR (personal recognizance) bond. That will get him out without having to pay any money to a bondsman or anything. But he will have to show up to court.
Now, when he goes to court, they could schedule him to more jail time. The maximum he can get for a class B misdemeanor is 180 days in jail, with or without a $1,000 fine.. Most likely he will not get the maximum, and if it is his first offense, they will more than likely not give him any actual jail time except for what he has already sat in jail waiting on court.
They might even give him time served on it if he sits in here for a week or two, and then he would actually be done with the charge or may have probation.
Good luck.

I live in California. Here, once you are arrested, the District Attorney has 72 hours to file a complaint, if no complaint if filed, then he is released and sent a Notice to Appear if they decide to pursue the charges. If he has went to arraingment already, then the complaint has been filed and he will sit there until someone can bail him out or he gets sentenced, whichever happens first. But even if you bail him out, he may still get jail time and the balance of the loan for bail must still be paid in full, even if they dismiss the charges. Good luck to your friend.

He is probably going to be charged with a misdemeanor, because of the weight. That's personal use, and not enough to constitute distribution. As far as going to jail is concerned, a charge like that could get up to 364 days in a county detention center, but it will depend on his criminal history. How many times has he been arrested/convicted of this? How many times has he been arrested/convicted of any charge? The longer the record, the harsher the sentence. He may want to plea bargain-plead guilty to a lessor charge.

Getting him out on bail will not change his situation a whole lot. He will still have to go to court and could be sentenced for further jail time. The sentencing will depend on the state and county he was pulled over in and what the judge decides.
If no one bails him out, he will sit there until he goes to court for his sentencing. That could be whenever they decide to make arrangements.

2 ounces of Marijuana is a Felony in Georgia.
Bond is set for the crime.
If nobody bonds him out then he will go to court at a set date which can be from 30 days to a year in some cases.
If he stays in that long, most likely time served and he's out.
First Offenders usually get a small break.
Posession charge is mild compared to trafficking.

Since he has already been arraigned, if no one bails him out (posts bond) he will remain in jail until he goes to trial. The length of time for that depends on where he is jailed; can be anywhere from a few days to months.
