my kitten does this when he has poop stuck to his hair around his butt. Nothing better than watching his scoot his poopy butt all over my counter top and floor...

I have a cat that does this every once in a while and she does not have worms or a problem with her anal glands which are the most common reasons cats do this. Sometimes they just have an itch and that is the only way to scratch it. However if it is a frequent occurrence and you are sure it is not worms then you probably should make a trip to the vet to have your cat checked out.

One of my cats was holding her tail differently a while back and I took her to the vet and her anal glands were inflamed (gross, I know). The vet took her into the back to "express" her anal glands. Sammy didn't much appreciate the procedure, but it greatly relieved her problem. This is a common thing in animals. Your vet may also check for other conditions if it's not what I've just described.

Could be she's marking her territory or that her bottom is itchy. Try putting a little diaper cream on her bottom. Cats have scent glands down there. Your vet can "empty" any excess fluid out, which may stop her from dragging it across your carpet. (it's gross and smelly, best left for a vet to do)

You need to bring kitty cat to the Vets for a checkup ASAP.
I believe she has parasites or enlarged anal glands. Kitty cat won't get better on her own as she depends on you for her everyday needs which includes medical care. As far as parasites are concerned they are not always visible as they can be harboring inside the rectum and only come out at night. So the best advise to help the cat get better is to take her to the veterinarians very soon. Don't worry as she'll be better soon after sh'e checked!

That is definally a sign for worms. Not all worms are visable. You can call a vet and he can give u a worm pill most of the time without even seeing your pet. Then if it keeps happening then I would take your pet in to be seen or take in a sample.

Its anal glands might be full, and making her uncomfortable - take her to the vet & tell the vet what she's doing. The vet can check her glands and empty them if they need it.

My cat used to do that. Not anymore though. She just stopped with nothing to help her stop. I think it might just be a stage of a cat's life. I know, its strange AND gross.

Hi there...when cats scoot their bum across the floor it's most likely because the anal sacs are impacted and need to be expressed: http://www.marvistavet.com/html/body_anal_sacs.html
