It would probably depend on the dog. I know of one dog who wouldn't bark when she wore the citronella collar, but as soon as it was off, she started up again. Then she learned how to tell if it was just shooting compressed air at her (the cirtonella was out) and wouldn't stop barking. You have to keep in mind that all of these types of products are just a crutch to get you through the time until your dog is reliably trained not to bark. So, if used in conjunction with a solid, consistent training program, I think they definitely have the potential to work. But if you're just expecting the collar to solve the problem for you, it probably won't be that effective long-term.

Yes, it works wonders for all of my dogs and neighbors dogs. As for the "use it until it runs out" the ones I use have do up to 300 sprays on one load and are refillable. And the dog doesn't want to "run it dry" because they hate the smell so much, they will stop. I don't recommend a shock collar as it is not very humane and if used incorrectly can actually make the dog worse. If you don't like it, return it. Even though you most likely won't openly take my opinion as it was I who reccomended it to you in another question anyway, but, if you want some more info on it, call/email this lady, she is the BEST dog trainer I have ever met. http://suemyles.com/contact.html

The shock collars work for some dogs, but it can make them nuerotic. I have heard good things about the Citronella, though not tried it myself.

I've heard they are very effective, but a smart dog will just bark until all the citronella is used up.

My friend has 3 very LOUD beagles and he uses the remote bark collars. The ones that give a shock. And yes they work very well. As soon as they go on - they are very quiet dogs (I've dog sat for them before. Those collars are a beautiful thing). Cooper who is the large male ALWAYS barks at least once when the collar goes on.. just to see if it works, and it hasn't caused any damage to him.

Not really, dogs become "collar wise" and then as soon as it runs dry or you take it off they will bark. The best way to keep a dog from barking is to distract it when it does,,, and be consistant about it.
