You could try doggie wipes. They are like baby wipes, but specifically made for dogs. Don't use regular baby wipes, as the high alcohol content will dry out your dog's coat. Doggie wipes are available at almost every pet retail store.

I have a German Shepherd with very sensitive dry skin. I found a deodorizer spray that also includes skin and coat conditioners at a local pet store. It works wonders. There are also many different doggie deodorizers available.

On a side note, I would be concerned about your doggie's day-care if he's coming home smelling like urine! This means they are probably letting the dogs urinate indoors where they are all playing or not cleaning up after the dogs.. neither one of which is good as diseases can be passed to your pal. I'd confront them about the odor and demand a tour of the facilities before allowing your dog to go back there. It may be a hassle to find a new place to take him, but he'll be healther and you'll be happier in the long run.

There's a dry powder you can purchase. You rub it in his coat and brush it out. Supposedly it acts as a "dry" bath and removes dirt and odors.

You also might try a doggie cologne spray. Sounds silly, but I have this baby powder scented conditioning and detangling spray that I use when my dog starts to get stinky but I don't feel she needs a bath yet. I just spray it in, and not only does she smell great, but it makes her coat shiny!

You also might try using a shampoo specially formulated to be gentle on the skin. Those can usually be used once a week without drying the skin.

Hope this helps...

It could be the establishment is not doing a very good job of taking care of Fido & his buddies. I would suggest a surpise visit at this establishment. Mention this to your doggie-care provider, especially if he smells like urine. While you are there, take a really good look at what's going on behind the scenes, in terms of cleanliness and care of the establishment and where the animals are kept, just *don't* let them know your coming.

They have that doggie deodorant at petco and I am sure other pet stores it smells really good and there are many different scents I would really try it, I know we used it with my springer spaniel and it did the trick it was more expensive than I would have liked ( not sure of the price ) Maybe ten dollars or so bur it did work.

You can try a dry shampoo, it's like a powder that you massage into his skin, but if he smells like urine you might want to change day care centers, I saw a program that pet urine is a source of somenala.

Try changing his/her food. Some foods are high in animal by-product and that is unhealthy for dogs, therefore they secrete these toxins through their skin sometimes causing odors. BUT some dogs naturally stink, I have Aubrey Organics Grooming Spray and it works wonders. Bathing your dog too often can cause problems since the oil they produce and you wash away is supposed to help their coats stay healthy.

Ugh, I know the smell. When my dog goes to her breeder to board, she comes home smelling like the kennel....if they smell like urine, it IS urine....Get a wet wash rag with just a touch of hand soap on it and go over your dog. It probably wouldn't hurt your dog if you gave it a full bath once a week, if you can just sort of "surface wash" him inbetween baths.

There are types of dog whipes (like for babies) that you can use.
Makes them smell fresh.
I would be wondering why he stinks like that everyday coming back from the doggie-care. Better check them out for not being very sanitary.

sounds like the doggie care he goes to is not too clean. I would consider changing up.
