because IMO it's a scent.

like, you got a girl, the others can sense it and they want you.

That's why I'm going to invent a colonge that has that scent

Girl: "You seem nice but you have a girlfriend."

Me: "NOT QUITE! I'M WEARING TAKEN!"

Because they are messed up. When you have someone they want to take you away and "win" you. But when your single and a nice guy your no longer a challenge. Talk up wanting to be a bachelor and being hard to get and watch how quick they come.
