Is it 99.9%? I thought that was Ivory purity. I think guys like to feel masculine (surprise!). Feeling masculine often means being bigger and stronger. This means short(er) women make them feel bigger and stronger.
If you're completely honest, most women prefer men who are at least their own height and usually somewhat taller.

Every girl I know perfers the guy she dates to be taller than her, so why is it that 99.9% of the female population prefer...tall men?

Do you really think that men prefer shorter women over taller women? I am 5ft 2 and I always hear things about how men are attracted to the super model look. They are all extremely tall and really skinny. I know I am small and I don't mind it. But I guess I hear more about attractive 6ft tall super models than I do about petit women.

I think this falls along the lines of gender roles. Males are expected to be dominant, and size difference is a simple method of achieving and displaying an obvious status of dominance.

They don't.
Actually it is the reverse: women prefer tall men (over all other factors for looks), while men prefer curvy women (over all other factors for looks).
As for myself, I'm 6'4" and I love tall women. And short women.

??? Not true at all. I'm 6' and my gf is 5' 11" and I prefer the long legs up to my lips if you know what I mean.
