I think the notion of predicting the future is something that we humans like to think is possible, given the unknowable nature of that which is to come. Whether it be the outcome of a horse race or the end of the world, people are always making prophetic statements.

Imagine someone studying the heavens in the dark hours of night, alone in some mountain fastness. Suddenly this person has a revelation and soon after declares that revelation to the people.

Can you tell me whether this is the story of some medieval mystic or a modern astrologer?

If a medieval mystic predicts the future it's prophecy, when a modern astrologer predicts the future it's science.

Now, imagine the astrologer is an atheist.

It happens tens of thousands of times every day. Just this morning I predicted that the next creationist to respond to a question about evolution would say something utterly ignorant of evolution. Heck, I'll make that same prediction again, and you can bet it'll come true. In fact I'll predict that of the next 100 creationist comments about evolution, at least 95 are just parroting ignorant creationist propaganda.

I also predict everytime I'm driving. I predict that the car in the oncoming lane will remain in the oncoming lane. I bet my life on it, in fact, and so far I've been right every single time.

I also correctly predicted that Bush would be a terrible President, and that his attack on Iraq would be a disaster. You don't have to be an atheist to make those kinds of predictions - I think that many Christians knew better as well.

P.S. My answer to those who say we do not recognize. The Bible would not say we received't recognize. In Thessalonians 5:4-5 (the youngsters of sunshine do recognize, because we are no longer in darkness) . also in Ecclesiastes 8:5 (the sensible will recognize time and judgment). for sure those mockers who're in darkness not in any respect will recognize because clone of in Noah's flood era they did not pay interest and take a at the same time as to understand and contained sooner or later were destryed.
