you can go directly to a passport office if you need it quicker. By mail it takes a month, and longer by online methods.
Right now they are getting something like 20000 requests a day so there is a huge backlog. If you have travel plans, go directly to a passport office and put a rush on it. It took 3 weeks for me from the office itself, but you can get it quicker. (expect a long wait in line right now)
If you do not need it right away, it is best to wait a bit before going in. The US deadline is today so everyone is in a panic. If you arent going away for awhile, it is better to wait for the rush to die down.

costs and timelines are on the government website.

you can't "renew" a canadian passport, you have to just apply for a new one using the application form you can pick up at any post office. If your old passport was issued in the last 5 years (which yours wasn't unless it was special circumstances like an emergency issue to replace a lost one which only lasted a year) you have to include it with your new application but they will send it back to you if you request it.

Search Canadian passport on google. The site will pop up. It takes 2 weeks. The price is $90 I think. If they don't send it out within two weeks it's free.
