No, it doesn't. It's also really bad for you in the long run. 6 weeks on Atkins raised my cholesterol by 56 points! Stay away!

I'd say no switch to the nutrisystem diet, it's the one I plan on buying my mom for a gift and well it might be on the more expensive end, 250 dollars about for one months supply it doesn't seem all that bad 3 meals a day plus a couple of snacks as well for the day that they supply anyways I wouldn't suggest something if I didn't think it was worth it look in to it at least, I was just watching an infomercial on it last night and this lady was saying that her cholesterol and blood pressure had gone down since she had been on this diet of theirs, they make sure you get all of the vitamins and nutrients that you need in your meals and with the atkins diet I have heard that yeah they have a lot of health problems that come along with it so I wouldn't recommend that one, anyways, best of luck to you

From experience yes you do lose weight ... but a word of caution, be reasonable about the amount of fat and oil you consume cholesterol can be your enemy.
If you decide to use atkins to lose weight remember it is a lifechange not just a one off thing...drinking water, adding back the carbs and exercising are critical to the success of the plan.
You will lose a fair amount of weight in the induction phase but the trick is to be able to recognise when you need to add back carbs to continue to loose the weight.
Good Luck and happy eating.

Absolutly, cutting carbs really helped me lose weight. I did Atkins once and lost 50 lbs. It was so easy I took it for granted and let myself go again. I adjusted the plan to suit myself a little bit better and took the weight off once again. It has been almost 8 years and the weight is still off. I just watch my carb intake and drink tons of water. 8-10 glasses a day. You might find this to help as well.

The people I know that have done the diet have lost alot of weight. However it isn't a lifestyle change for them. They can't NOT eat bread for the rest of their lives, not drink a glass of orange juice, or have a Coke!- they're just not willing! I wouldn't be either! As soon as they have stopped the diet, or decreased it in some of the cases, the weight piles back on like crazy! And their cholestol is out of control. Eating alot of red meat isn't healthy for your digestive tract either!

The Atkin's plan is oversimplified. Sure it is beneficial to reduce your intake of refined carbohydates, like white flours. However, these should be replaced with whole grains. Loading up on fatty foods may give you short term weight loss, primarily do to water loss, but it will also increase your chances of heart disease. Your best bet is having a healthy diet with lots of fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Keep the refined carbs and animal products to a minimum.

It does help you lose weight while you are on the diet. It also has a slew of medicals problems that can come along with it. Which is why you can't stay on it forever. When you get off the diet, that's when you gain all the weight back (and sometimes more).

It works, but you're really better off eating more carbohydrates than they recommend. I eat 35-50 grams per meal, and exercise 60-120 minutes a day. I've lost 120 pounds in one year, and have stayed healthy the whole time.

Yes, I lost 20 lbs very quickly but then slacked off the diet and gained over 30 lbs back! It also elevated my cholesterol levels. Be careful, you should consult a physician before going on any diet.

ALL the diets work, but just read the small fine print "along with proper exercise and proper foods." Something like that. If you just exercised 4 hours a day, you could do the "Eat anything diet" then.
