You need to talk to your doctor, be open with them..
There are other treatment options out there.. Zoloft may have been working for awhile but 5 years is a long time.. Your body has become custom to this medication it is time to switch it up..
A councilor might be helpful too.. or go to the self help section in the bookstore or the library and pick up a few books it helps to know what is really happening in your life and hearing other stories helped me a lot..

Sounds like you need to get new meds. How long have you been pretending to be happy? You need to let your doc know that you aren't really and that you have only been pretending and for how long. You should probably go ahead and let him/her know why you have been pretending to be happy instead of being honest about feeling miserable. You can't feel better if you don't tell him what's really going on in your life. I think if you let him know exactly what's up with you right now, and he either adjusts your meds or gets you on some new ones, you will more than likely start to feel better about things. Good luck

Get off Zoloft. Many people I know can not take it. It makes them crazy and miserable. Look for something else that works i.e. Cymbalta. Great drug with nearly NO side effects. You will find something that agrees with you and you will be happy you changed.
Good luck!

Maybe you need a change of career or a nice hobby to do after working. Pills help, but after 5 whole years it sounds like you need to take some action. Perhaps finding something that you like to do will help. I was depressed for a few years after several miscarriages. I discovered I love k.d. Lang's singing!!! And that really helps. I have all her cd's now and I love to search info on her on the internet. It took my mind off of my own problem and I love to walk now too. I know this may sound shallow, but finding something such as music or something you look forward too after working all day does help. L in Canada

I am going thru the same thing, Zoloft helped me for a while but now I don't even think it helps. I have been taking myself off of it and I feel okay right now. I also helped me gain weight. Good luck.

Talk with your doctor. Maybe the Zoloft has quit working and a change in medications would help.

I hope that being miserable is never normal for anyone. I would talk to my doctor and either change dosage or change meds altogether. Meds effect everyone differently, and there are many to choose from. Your doctor should be able to help you solve this. Keep trying.

Ok......so why? Are you addicted to your misery? If not, then get back to your doctor and try another medication. There are so many out there that work in different ways with your brain chemistry. There is NO reason to suffer with your depression...and certainly not for 5 years. That IS crazy.
