i have windows xp and windows vista beta both installed on the same drive and this is how i did it
first you need to partition your existing hard drivemand although you can get 3rd party partitioning software i reckon its better to reinstall windows xp and use the partitioning option in the xp set up
so first take a windows xp disc(not a recovery disc as this wont give you a option to partition)and place in dvd/cd-rom and restart the p.c
when prompted"press any key to boot from cd"and follow the instructions, soon you will come to a screen with all the avalible partitions on your hard drive, with options to delete, create, and use for xp installation
basically you need to delete all current partitions and then when you have 1 unnalocated space then 1)create a partition and make the size half of your hard drives capacity, then when you have created the partition do the same with the leftover space, once you have done this you should have 2 partitions with a equal amount of space on each partiiton
use your c drive for your first operating system and then highlight c and press enter, set up will continue and follow instructions
you will then have a spare partition for other operating systems, simply choose d drive when you install a future operating system
you can also use a 95/98/me start up disc and use the fdisk tool(type fdisk at command prompt),to partiton the drive you must delete non-dos partiton first and then craete non-dos partiiton
you can get a windows start up disk from http://www.bootdisk.com/
any problems let me know
good luck

I can recommend you to use Acronis Disk Director. It has a useful feature - OS Selector that will allow you to install 100 or more OSes on one computer. You can boot an OS from any partition on any hard disk or have several operating systems on the same partition. Among other things Disk Director is a great partition utility, so it will allow you to resize, move, copy, split, and merge partitions without losing your data. Visit Acronis site to learn more about Disk Director:

http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,73826-page,1/article.html
They suggest buying software, but if you dont want to, you can use a variety of freeware tools. You can also use FDISK. The guide for this is
http://fdisk.radified.com/
The tools I recommend are:
-Ranish Partition Manager
-Hirens Boot CD (Has all the partitioning software youll ever need (including partition magic) and alot of other software. Get that from here: http://rapidshare.com/files/9845095/softarchiveBootCD87.rar
The password for that is
