Grand Central is on 42nd-44th St. on the eastside of Manhattan and Madison Sq. Garden is at 32/33rd St. across 5-6 avenues further west.. You'll get there @rush hour and 42nd St. will be busy, slow for cabs/buses at that time. If you get there before 5-5:30pm you SHOULD walk, as it'll be the most fun -- and you simply walk on any streets, zig-zagging if you wish South and West, meaning toward the sunset (take a cab going back, it'll cost about $7). Say hello to people as you're walking - people walking the same way will either be commuters, going home (Long Island people take the trains under MSG) or actually Knick fans themselves, heading your way. If you need a cab, I'd say to walk 2-5 blocks south and pick a one-way street that heads west -- there's less competition for taxi's and less crosstown traffic. PS -- the Knicks stink. We're becoming Nets fans, here in NYC.

It's two or three subway stops. Take the S one stop or the 7 two stops to 42nd Street/Times square. Then take the 1 2 3 or A C E one stop to 34th Street/Penn Station. Madison Square Garden is right above the station.

It's not very far. It would take about 20 minutes to walk but I would not recommend it in this weather. Take the Shuttle (S) from Grand Central to Times Square. Then from Times Square, take the 1, 2, or 3 line to 34th Street, Penn Station.

okay, new york city is simply a north, south, east, west island. grand central station is NORTH EAST of madison square garden. if you are walking from grand central station, once you surface from the train you will be on 42nd Street and Lexington Avenue. You simply walk west and cross AVENUES. Lexington Ave, Park Ave, Madison Ave, 5th Ave, 6th Ave to 7th Avenue. MAKE a LEFT. (that should take you about 10-15 minutes.
On 7th avenue, you begin to walk SOUTH. (the numbers will be street begin to go down. 42, 41, 40 to 33rd. St. You will then be at 33rd Street and 7th Avenue. (that should take you about 10-15 min.)
Keep in mind that Avenues run NORTH/SOUTH and Streets run EAST/WEST. if you remember that you can never get lost in midtown (NYC).
if taking a taxi, many it should take you 5-7 min. however, it really depends on the time of day you arrive. 42nd Street has these new rules where you cannot turn off certain streets onto certain avenues. that is to keep the flow of traffic. hopefully you won't experience that.
enjoy the game and new york.
