- The US has become anti-immigrant, which impacts Americans' view of foreign tourists as well.
- The rest of the world is largely against US foreign policy, and Americans therefore take the reactionary stance of being anti-foreigners and thereby anti-foreign tourist.
- In an effort to better control the borders and prevent terrorists from entering the country, US customs policy has become painful to negotiate for foreigners entering the US. Fingerprinting, visas, etc. make it more difficult and annoying to come to the US.
- The increased border control measures are annoying to travellers, who probably act irritated to customs agents. The customs agents react by being irritated and rude to the next people in line, and a vicious circle ensues.

I'm sorry to hear that. It depends on where you go and, sadly, where you are from. Some people are just plain rude to foreigners. Others just are ignorant to others needs. The airport. . . Everyone knows what happened on 9/11 and its just regarding security. Some airport security is rude about it, I know. Let your friends know we are sorry about some things that happened and let them know that all Americans don't feel any bad feelings towards tourists :)
I live close to Mexico and we are very welcoming to tourists :) Try South Texas!

Well I cant speak for airport personnel , they have been rude to everyone for as long as I can rememeber.
But as far as other people being rude, I have never heard anyone say this. If it is happening to people you know it may be isolated iccidents and not the same for everyone. And if certain vistors are meeting rude people perhaps it is because thos Americans are so sued to hearing foreigners complain about us, that they might automatically treat them a little worse... just a guess though.

Im from Ireland and our national radio had a long discussion about this. Some of the phone ins told of being Handcuffed at the airport and frog marched through crowds of people to another part of the airport to be checked out. Part of the problems were passport problems and were innocent problems that were construed to be serious by immirgration. There was a barrage of complaints to the American ambassadors residence in Dublin after the show. They complained mostly of they way they were treated by what they described as aggressive arrogant immigration officers who treated them like criminals. That show was aired last year on R.T.E radio so I dont know what came out of it later..

We've become so terrorist paranoid that we've forgotten what life is like. History shows the same thing about travel in the world during every war (WWI, WWII, are prime examples.)
