That is really gross, though it probably wasn't maggots you saw - probably just larvae. Maggots don't usually live in dry food, but moths do. I had a moth problem in my kitchen a few months back - it was really disgusting, and just kept getting worse. We finally figured out how to get rid of them - its really rather easy:
1. You have to throw out ALL the food in your kitchen cabinets, except canned goods. Everything in boxes, bags, everything. What you don't want to throw out, you must put in your freezer (pasta, flour, other breaded stuff.) This will kill any eggs that may have been laid in it.
2. Clean your cabinets with a bleach mixture. Make sure you get into small crevaces. They also love to lay eggs in paper bags, tupperware, boxes, the corners on your ceiling - really the oddest places. You have to look everywhere.
3. You must buy 'pantry moth' traps - you can find them online. There's a great kind that's shaped like a tent. It will lure the males in and kill them - that way the females can't breed and you'll break the cycle.
4. Kill kill kill! Once you've done these three steps, kill every moth in sight. This won't work overnight - you probably will get some new hatchlings over the next few weeks but they won't be able to mate if you've got the male traps, so they'll just die off. Believe me - this worked and we are now completely moth-free.
From now on, inspect any boxed food you buy from the store for webbing or small holes. If you want to be really safe (and we do!) put all dry goods in the freezer for a full week after buying them. After that week, its safe to put them in the cupboard, because anything living in them will have been killed.
Good luck. Moths suck.

Ew, ew, ew. We get moths at our house, and I can't say I've not eaten a few accidentally once or twice, but that many in the soup that soon? I feel bad for you, that's gross!
Here's what we do for rice and stuff:
You know those big metal things of popcorn you can buy with the big-eyed puppies or holiday decorations on the side? If you empty them out (eat the popcorn, feed it to your dogs, whatever) you can put all the foods that moths like in them. You still need to put plastic wrap on the top before you put the lid on, just to be on the safe side, but it is a lot harder for the beasts to chew through the metal...

Well, I think you've gotten your protein for the next year or two. I did something similar trying to drain the water on the winter cover for my swimming pool. There were little wiggly worm all through the water and I was syphoning the water through a hose. Well, mush to my suprise I sucked until the water went in my mouth. I was so shocked that I swallowed before I could think and next thing you know, I was gagging. I still have nightmares on that. I should make a movie, The night I swallowed worms.

That is gross! But as I have been told, "you would be surprised what you can live through". Have you not heard of moth balls. You buy them at the store and place them around the house and they are supposed to kill and/or detract moths from those locations. But, do not use them as a permanent solution. I would get the house exterminated.

Rosa, your poetry has particularly come on in leaps and limits. All of those are solid poems. I desire you're able to submit them one after the other although. i'm going again later as quickly as I even have greater time to offer you my opinion on each and every physique. See ya later... Edit: Rosa the 1st poem is by ability of a techniques my well-known. this is superior further and candy has given you a concept undemanding approaches to pass approximately it. in reality you have had some solid critique already from people who've made some smart innovations to you. the 1st poem i actually, particularly like. this is not darkish in any respect to me. this is a poem of desire and it is particularly heartfelt. right performed.

We had something similar to that. You need to store everything in tightly sealed plastic/glass containers. Do not leave anything in its original plastic bag. For example the rice you buy you'll have to put that in a new container. They can eat though those bags. Clean out everything and toss everything they get into. They can even get into a sealed box of hambuger helper for example. Good Luck.

that is horrid..
If it was a product that you used that had the larva in it I would call the compaines, and you know what they will compensate you!
They will pay you for a new product and extra money, plus if you go to the doctors they will cover that expense.
I would keep a sample just incase.
I would be freaking out and trust me I have done it before with pancakes, i was going to sue the company for making my children sick, I was heavily compensated :)

Meh; that's not that bad....more protein. lol
I don't think it's because they mate so fast. Caterpillars are moth larvae, so if you don't have them around it's not the mating thats causing the problem. I don't know what to tell you.

YIKES!!!
If I were you I would consider having an exterminator spray the house. I don't think the extra protein will hurt you but it is still disgusting to even think about it.......
