Will I have trouble playing some games, will they be compatible to install and run with Vista? If I network with friends...must they also have Vista or is their XP fine?

XP is fine for them, BUT:
-Windows Vista will slow down your PC a lot.
-Not all games will work fine with Vista.
-They will require a lot more RAMs than with XP since Vista is already high-resource consuming.
Advice: If you are a beginner in PCs, keep XP. If you know something about PCs, switch to Linux(this is an open source OS, highly efficient, more faster than any other OS). Once you install Cedega on Linux, you will be able to play games with your friends.

It hasn't even been released yet!

Why be in such a hurry to jump on a new OS that hasn't been properly field tested as yet.

Give Microsoft about a year before you spend your money on it.

Not only that but it comes in several different versions. The cheapest (with few bells and whistles) for about $130 and the most expensive (with all the bells and whistles) for just under $200.

Not only that, but I think the best answer to your games compatibility question, is to check on the web sites of the manufacturers of the game itself to see if it is compatible with Vista.

Vista is going to create a lot of headaches for folks at first. I'd hold off if I were you. If your PC is working just fine for you, why change?
