Could the people in the Bible who God spoke to, have suffered from Schizophrenia?

People with schizophrenia are generally no more dangerous or violent than any others, however positive symptoms include delusions, auditory hallucinations and thought disorder and are typically regarded as manifestations of psychosis. A friend works in the mental ward of a hospital and amazingly how many of the people suffering from schizophrenia hear "God" in their head and God telling them things. There was Isaiah that was "told" by God to go around naked for three years, which fits within the diagnosis. There are too many delusions and hallucinations throughout the bible to mention. Even Jesus spoke in abstracts and it would explain his "dying" on the cross and then walking days later as it could be stupor catatonia, indicative of schizophrenia.
Diagnosis includes the following: delusions, hallucinations, disorganized speech (e.g. speaking in abstracts). Grossly disorganized behavior (e.g. dressing inappropriately) or catatonic behavior.
That mental disorder would explain it.

Stormchaser: Why all the anger? I asked a question without emotion, yet you are angry right off the bat. You also need to realize that nothing that I stated had anything to do with Freud. Freud wrote a book on religion: "The Future of an Illusion" in 1927, based on the premise that "religion is an illusion that humans must get beyond in order to mature", for example, but then you have so much hate that you can not see past that.
As for the drugs, etc. my question was asking could they have suffered from that PROVEN mental disorder. You need to learn to relax, drop the emotion, and read. Obviously nothing that I stated was pro or against Freud, women, or anything like that. It was a simple question that maybe they could have suffered from a mental disorder since we have people locked up today who speak to God as well. I am not trying to erase faith, just asking a question. But then I guess your faith can not question it, makes me want to follow something I can never question.

It could be possible. For instance, when Abraham heard God tell him to sacrifice his son, he could have been hallucinating. God would never tell a human being to kill another human being, especially not his son. And the fact that the angel came down to rescue Isaac just in time shows that it was not God's desire for Abraham to kill his son.

It could also be possible that some of the people who we label as "mentally ill" are in fact prophets.

Please notice that I said "some" not "all." I am very much in favor of mental health services for those who need it,

A delusion or mental disorder will NEVER tell you to LOVE ONE ANOTHER. A genuine visit from God can be told by the fact that God will tell you to do the right thing. I have never heard of a schizophrenic or delusional person hearing voices and going on a hugging spree.

Not all people are hearing things as you have so eloquently put it! You are an intolerant bigot Practicing Freudian psychology and No legitimate Therapist even uses it anymore unless it is for those who will never ever get well, because of a genetic disorder. People transfer their anger towards others, because of what is afflicting them or people they know and not other people.

You should gain some knowledge and read the Medical Evidence of the Crucifixtion. Jesus spoke in parables that was story telling to make obvious a current situation, for their culture. Freudian psychology dictates that women especially are somehow flawed based on their gender. What they never tell you is that Freud was delusional, on cocaine and was a self hating Jew that found no value in the human race and his writings did not become available until 2000.

Himmler, Freud and Hitler grew up in the same Austrian town and perpetrated heinous crimes against Jews and homosexuals, frequently placing them together in the Death Camps. Hitler's mother was a Jew and Frued was the son and granson of Jewish Rabbis.

Psychiatrist's even administer drugs that cause people to become crazy or place them under such tremedous stress they do temporaily become crazy. Everybody should go out and Get a Copy of the "Pill Book" and see what those medications can do! Therapists like that, are only trying to keep the insurance rolling and Their pockets fat. Physicians like that took and oath to do no harm and yet do.

Their bigotry/sexism will not allow them to believe that some people are intelligent regardless of their race or gender. Those are no more than witch doctors. If you are a psychologist /psychiatrrist or social worker and you tend to stereotype and try to make people violent, through medications they don't need or don't know their culture STOP! You have disgraced the profession and yourself. They never ever take into consideration if these people have any allergies or have come into contact with some chemical to change their behavior. They do not administer to the needs of the whole person.

That kind of Intolerance of religion and religious views was in fact taken out of the DSM 3..You are trying to define an experience of faith by a Secular Humanist viewpoint and that is another religion. What it really is is an attempt, feeble at best to erase faith and people who believe in God, by labeling people erroneously and persecuting them by accusing them of "speaking with and Imaginary persons", through prayer! then again there are those who tryully are misfortunates and do in fact have serious mental problems and need the care. Do not lump everybody as a novice into the same catagories.

You disregard culture. These diagnosis are generally that of bigots by reason of biology are not generally applicable to other races of people due to genetics, age, environment. They still view people of color as inferior beings!

That's a very modernized and one sided view. I believe god speaks to all of us and we do have an inner voice. It's just when the inner voice gets so loud it sounds like it's someone else in the room, is when you have to worry.

If that were the case, then the Bible would have disappeared by now. Your assessment does not take into consideration the transformation the sacrifice of Christ has had in the lives of countless Christians. God's word gives salvation, inner peace,strength and hope. You should check it out for yourself.

Please try to understand that there are so many versions of the bible, which shows that it may very well be fabricated by the respective writers who wrote them in order to benefit themselves & their lifestyles. As such, place your faith in the Koran as it is truly the only religious book that you should sought for answers.
