I've always wanted to try it because I love salty food, but here in the US it is nearly impossible to find.

I like Vegemite, in small doses (which is the way it's supposed to be eaten). If you like salty things, then you'll probably be able to tolerate Vegemite.

Besides being really salty, it kind of looks/feels like honey, only thicker. It's made from brewer's yeast, and if you've ever tried it, you'll recognize the flavor in Vegemite.

I tried Vegemite when I was in Australia in 2001, but I can't say I got hooked on it. It's good to have around (it also adds alot of flavor to stews and gravies and such), and I've had my friend in Australia ship me a ar on a couple of occasions. One good point: the stuff lasts forever, especially in the fridge.

I don't know of anyplace that regularly carries it in the US, but you can order it online. Believe it or not, it's much cheaper to get it from British American Imports (www.britshoppe.com) than from a distributor in Australia, because the shipping is cheaper.

A little bit is OK, once in awhile. Any decent supermarket should carry it, or its British cousin, Marmite.

--I can't believe all these people that say they can't find it in the US. I get it in two different stores in Abilene, TX, which is not exactlly the center of the shopping universe.

There's an English thing called marmite which is similar - maybe this will be more available in America

You could probably find it on the internet.
